Does it happen if you get up to speed and push the clutch in? How about just revving the engine in the bad RPM range while stopped? It almost sounds like the flywheel is out of balance and causing a vibration and harmonic resonance.

When just revving the engine in neutral while stationary I can't say for sure. I just tried it in the garage, but it sounds not as bad today as it normally does. I'm pretty sure it still vibrates, but can't say for sure. We have terrible weather here today, so I can't really take it out to check easily right now. |

I just spoke with fika84. It sounds like the problem is not the flywheel given my previous post. What else could it be?

It's the complete clutch kit. I had the same one, and it shook the whole car every time I lugged the engine. All I added was the whiteline transmission bushing:
https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...9&postcount=18 --- Honestly, It wasn't a big deal to me. I just avoided lugging the engine. I eventually removed the kit because of clutch drag: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128871 |

If the clutch is not engaged it sound normal. Only when the clutch is engaged does the the car vibrate. Revving the engine while stopped doesn't cause the vibration, whether the car is in neutral, or there is a gear selected and the clutch pedal is on the floor.

@Pat under what circumstances are you getting increased NVH? Decel in gear only?
Was your clutch installed using the provided plastic tool (which sucks), or a metal tool (way more rigid)? Everything torqued down slowly in a star pattern or just full depth torque in a star pattern? It sounds to me like it may slightly be out of alignment. |

Thanks, Mike. I remember reading about the plastic tool vs. the metal tool. I spoke with Mark Baer about this at SCR Performance. He said they use the plastic tool that comes with it, as that is what gets it on there. But what really centers it, he said, is tightening everything down.
I get the noise at nearly any speed as long as the clutch is engaged. It is noisiest when decelerating between 2k and 4k RPMs. But I get is accelerating, too. When the revs are high it's almost unnoticeable. I believe there is a harmonic factor involved. I have to imagine it was torqued bit by bit in a star pattern as the shop, SCR, is pretty well respected. But who knows, everyone makes mistakes. Thanks again. |

I have the oem flywheel in my car but I do get chatter at all rpm on occasion. There seems to be a 1:1 correlation between the noise and the good wife being in the car.

If it's not happening in neutral, even with the clutch fully engaged, I'd lean towards something behind the gearbox. I've heard of balance issues on the driveshaft if not installed in the same orientation as it was removed, could possibly be that. If it was the driveshaft, I'd think you would get some vibration even in neutral while rolling though, and it would be more dependent on vehicle speed than engine speed.

If you paid someone to do it and it started right after I would be working with them for the solution. Take them for a drive, if they have don a lot of these they should know if it is normal. If it is not they will just have to go over everything they had apart to verify it is correct and or defective part(if you purchased the part from them).

I just heard from the shop. They verified everything in the drivetrain looks fine, with the exception of the tranny. IIRC they stuck a scope in there while driving and saw movement around the TOB. We used a current OEM TOB. We scheduled more time next week to take it apart and figure it out.
