That sums it up pretty nicely. I'm coming from the direct competitor of GTI, a Mazdaspeed3. I feel the same way.

That's funny -- I own/track these exact cars. FR-S 6M and 4-door GTI DSG. Their findings are spot-on.

Down the front and back ~100 mph straights at my local track, the GTI is definitely faster. I'm usually up 3-4 mph entering the braking zones in the GTI. These cars might both be listed at 200 hp, but the GTI is underrated and makes about 20-30 whp more than advertised. I'm actually surprised the GTI was 2 seconds slower, even with the quicker DSG transmission.

But I'm not surprised they had to back off a bit with the GTI's brakes. If they had pushed harder, the brakes would have faded completely. I boiled my brake fluid pretty easily with it at the track.

They're also right that the FR-S is much more light and tossable in the turns. That's where it makes up its time and the reason I enjoy driving it more at the track.

Own a 2010 Golf TDI 4 door DSG (on Drivergear springs, GTI rims, GTI shocks, and GTI rsb) plus my FR-S. I definitely get it no matter how different the 2 really are. And when I say different, I mean in every aspect of the word.
