High Beams

So I just installed my HID kit on my FR-S and I'm very happy with it. Looks 1,000,000x better than stock. Only bad thing is that now when my high beams are on, they (being yellow) mix with the white HIDs and I don't really like the look. So my question is, is there any way to swap the stock Yellow HB3 bulb to a white one? Im savvy when it comes to body parts but lighting, not even close haha. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

Yes, you can. You have three options, a whiter halogen bulb, an LED bulb, or an HID. The downside to the LED bulb is your high beams are worthless. With an HID it takes some time to achieve full brightness, so you lose your ability to 'flash'.

Awesome. Thanks for the info, man. Probably just end up switching to a whiter halogen bulb. Anyone know where I can find a white hb3 bulb? Googled it and not much popped up besides high beam HIDs. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the nighthawks...the Osram night breakers are a coated bulb I believe, so you'll get a whiter/bluer light from the bulb, but you will not get as much usable light from it in contrast to the Sulverstar Ultras.

As a point of interest, if you were to swap out the halogen bulbs, make sure you wear latex gloves as the oil from your skin can severely diminish the lifespan of the bulb.

One option I forgot to mention are Philips HIR bulbs, which are essentially considered second to none. I believe the high beams on the FR-S are 9005s, so it should work.

We've been selling them here for a long time and I have only had the odd H13 bulb come back. Solid product.

If you want the best of the best buy PIAA. Otherwise MTEC is my go-to for halogens.

Holy cow this is an old thread haha. I ended up going with a white LED bulb. It does kind of eliminate high beams, but my HIDs are so bright that they're brighter than my stock high beams anyway. Got mine from a vendor on here in the classifieds section. If you'd like, I can go check which one and let you know!

haha yea, i realized that shortly after posting. can people see your led highbeams when you flick them while your headlights are on? that's really my main use of high beams, to communicate with other drivers.

Yeah, you can tell if they're on or off. If that's your use, LEDs will do!
