But I am wondering if it nice to not be stuck with remote tuning. Or if it has greater control.

Yeah, live mapping is pointless.

It is when the OEM ECU already has all the tables filled in. If there was an affordable plug and play Haltec with direct injection control, I would consider buying it, but we all know that only exists in the land of unicorns and rainbows.

^ exactly. what's more important, live mapping (which is unnecessary on the stock ecu as stated above) or direct injection? or maybe the set of tires you can buy with the money you saved on the standalone?

It's pretty clear who hasn't tuned a strung-out turbocharged engine before.

It can't possibly be to long in the future before open source tuning becomes a viable option, I agree it is very sad that the only "real" option out right now forces the user to either pay a sizable fee to become a "master" tuner (which is fairly funny to see, master based on paying the entrance fee) or deal with e-tunes as a primary choice. How many other imports are bound to this type of tuning option? not many at all, domestics? sure, euro cars of course. But japanese cars, especially performance models always seem to have a variety of options from either Piggyback options, openware flashable ecu's and many different plug and play standalone systems.

/thought

tl;dr

Tuning options suck for these cars now.

domestics aren't too bad. most of them are flashable. but yeah i agree, the state as it is today sucks. once openflash is out, the gate opens up to the rest of us.

Unfortunately the EcuTek dealer network is not very large for this platform, it is slowly growing it seems. It is also not the cheapest tuning option I have ever seen either, but that is not always a bad thing. I have seen cheap tuning options cause some serious issues over the years, especially in the wrong hands. My only real concern is that when a cheap option does come out there will be people who want to do it them selves, which I am all for, but shouldn't. There are a lot of people that have caused lots of issues "tooning" do to the fact it cost them so little to do it and they did not know enough about what they are doing. With that, I am sure there are quite a few that are more then capable but it is not a financial option for them to become a dealer or they may be against the product all together, as it is not super cheap to do so. Hopefully in time costs come down, dealer networks grow, and hell other viable options for the do it your selfer that is truly capable do become available. This platform is still very new and in time I am sure there will be lots of options with its popularity.

Update: LJ has kept me busy with updates for the 91/pump gas map. We got rid of the majority of the knock, but it always pulls some timing (1-2) deg right before you go into boost. Under boost it doesn't seem to knock, but there's probably not much timing being added for now.

I decided to give up on 91 for now, as I was always planning to stick to E85 once the 91 backup map was ok. I drove around until it was far below empty on the gauge, added 12.5G of E85 from canisters, and flashed LJs E85 basemap. Fuel gauge doesn't even show full, so it must've been very empty.

I've now driven it around for about 30 minutes total on the new map, seeing constant knock. I just went out for a 10 minute drive, saw -1 deg timing pulled exiting my garage, then -5 deg @ 3500 rpm getting onto the highway. I'm so lost. I don't know what to do anymore. Incredibly depressed.

I'll probably call up WORKS motorsports in the morning to see if they want to take a stab at dyno tuning it, or figuring out if there is a mechanical issue.

There's a TSB for unsteady idle for all Fx2x engines, including ours. One of the fixes has to do with shimming the knock sensor. Probably unrelated, but just a thought.
