RX8 out Ran My FRS (Rotary Vs Flat 4)

After an argument about which car is better, my friend who owns a 2006 Mazda Rx8 VS my FRS.

1/4 Mile Run

On the launch i was a head for like a few second in sport mode using the paddle shifters perfectly, but for some reason i can feel my car maxing out and not moving a fast as i think it would, on each gear high revs and that feeling of getting tossed back in to the seats was missing. i felt oddly out of place.(Felt like i was driving a Hyundai). However, the RX8(also AT W/Paddle Shifters) took the victory by one car length +.

HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING!!

I dont know if this might be a flaw in my car, or the it has some thing to do with the ECU or Tranny / something else.... any ideas?

Or Rotary Engines Totally Have the upper hand (which i refused to believe)

The FR-S should eat an automatic RX-8 alive. Now, a manual RX-8 with comparable drivers will beat a manual FR-S/BRZ every single time. Don't know how you lost to that RX-8. Source: I have both cars

@RowTarEEE

IT was an auto FR-S vs a auto RX8, the RX8 has a slightly better power to weight ratio ans more revs per gear.

I am not surprised the RX8 won. Even for a manual vs manual i would expect the RX8 to win (not by much)

What the fuq are you two doing drag racing two slow cars intended for fun in the twisties? LOL

Also, that was a lame Hyundai comment. FYI, the Genesis will smoke you in YOUR game, the 1/4 mile.

I believe he was referring to the Accent, not the Genesis.

Well the 13b is the bigger motor 1.3x2=2.6l of displacement vs. 2.0. Don't underestimate the rotary I think the problem youre actually having is that you're drag racing the frs and expecting it to win...

In a straight line it did!

Few years back I raced my 5spd 99 Miata against an 04 RX-8 auto. I had been driving stick for literally all of two weeks and missed third gear on both my runs.

I still remember how slow it was compared to my FR-S, so like...I dunno, hit them flappy paddles faster?

^13b is not the bigger motor. 1.3 liters is still 1.3 liters lol. And I wasn't aware the automatic FR-S was that much slower than a manual? I know the RX-8 automatic is a lot slower than a manual. It had 7,500RPM and produced significantly lower HP than the 9,000RPM manual.

Are you sure about that? They seem dead-even on paper (both tested by C/D):

RX-8 R3 / FR-S

0-60: 6.3 s / 6.4 s
0-100: 16.9 s / 16.6 s
1/4: 14.9@94 / 14.9@95

Call me a liar or whatever but I took an rx8 I believe it must have been an auto in the 1/8th mile drag in my 03 outback 5spd with just a catback and an intake....

I have a series 1 MT '04 RX-8 which quoted 14.3 at the 1/4th. In this article from caranddriver, 14.5 for MT. " the RX-8 scooted to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds at 96 mph." You are quoting the series II RX-8 R3 which is heavier. Besides, the OP raced an automatic RX-8, which is significantly slower than a MT with only 7,500RPM redline

You're right 654cc per rotor. I stand corrected.
