Sadly, no. I got everything back together before I remembered to take a picture. Its pretty easy once you get it out to see what I was talking about.

Here is where I cut my short one. I beleive I ended up with a 3.7 inch opening at the home made velocity stack.

Im running an airaid and dyno tuned by the former Visconti. Hoping to cut down on some up the intake noise and change the tone with the modded longer snorkel.

Got it in tonight. Much easier to get in without all the crap mounted on it. Still need to drive to get some feedback.

Ok sound is much better for me. Doesnt have the loud higher pitched growl I was hearing around 4 k wot. Deeeper sound. Performance wise dont feel much of a difference. Will log in the upcoming days to see if there is a difference. Im happy with it.

In the Software Tuning forum @shiv@vishnu was saying he took the snorkel completely off and he had reproducible gains of 2-3 hp...

not a lot but a gain is a gain, you guys could be on to something.

also to people talking about smaller = greater velocity: that's called Bernoulli's principle

I just got that tune this past weekend, going to take off the snorkel in a matter of days. Will let you know what I find

Has anyone tried capping the original small opening and cutting a nice long slot along the front?

I thought about removing all the resonators (3?) to smooth out the intake snorkle. I wouldn't cut it though unless I can find a way to keep the velocity stack design intact. Thx for the pics.

Not much thinking required really... it is not. But if everyone knew this who would spend $400 on the latest JDM snorkel? LOL

Modified Intake Snorkel with Additional Inlet Holes

Thanks to OP for the idea, @shiv@vishnu recommended removing the intake snorkel completely, but I started to rethink the idea after seeing the risk of heat soak.

Figured I'd open the snorkel a bit, but keep on the tab that bolts up the frame. A dremel will be your best friend with this mod.

Test-fit of the modified snorkel. With the snorkel lined up, you can peak through and see some open space leading into the engine bay. I took the snorkel a step further following the picture below

Added weather-resistent weather stripping around the snorkel to block-off any potential air seeping from the engine

Snorkel bolted to the factory location. You can see how snug the space is with the weather-stripping. I removed the plastic panel sitting below the snorkel and drilled MOAR HOLES. Why? Well, why not?

Not the best job on lining up the holes, but you get the idea. I'm sure the Toyobaru Engineers were cautious when designing the intake system, so I see no harm in making mods similar to factory specs. I haven't noticed any loss in performance/hesitation, nor can I really feel a difference? I don't want to flash my system back to stock to test this config, though the engine does growl quite a bit when I'm on it.

It's a relatively simple mod, and it will make your intake louder. Lastly, I've flashed to 1.31 beta from Vishnu, great tune.

Nice job @ck-GT86, reminds me of the mini r56 snorkel. Curious where you got the weather stripping from as I may try this while waiting for the HKS intake duct to arrive.

So far I've only cut off the 2 small resonators on the snorkel and noticed low rpms are smoother. Other than that sounds and feels the same.

I got my weather stripping from Lowe's. Home Depot may be more common around L.A., I decided against the foam-type and picked rubber.
