Well, I don't reckon there is any "proper direction" ……

Personally, I usually just shift by listening to the engine.

However, I do have my shift light set at 6,500.

Why?

I use it to remind me to shift, when in heated races with minivans up to Walmart. Although that setting is about 1,000 RPM short of fuel cut off ….. it takes me that long to react to the shift light and shift …… so as I don't hit the rev limiter.

After thought …….. what did we EVER do before we had shift lights …….??

I leave mine parked in the garage ...
so the battery in the key-fob doesn't wear out.
