Good chance that it's the vacuum pump. It's a thing. Does it seem to come from the back of the engine on the right (passenger) side?

From the videos I took today it does sound seem like the upper right is louder but I could be mistaken. I’ve read about the vacuum pump before because initially that’s what I assumed it being. The fact that it goes away once I drive faster eases my mind a bit aha it just sounds gross when I’m stopped

As the damaged coupling wears, shit mixes with the oil, gets sucked through the pump, and hopefully is captured by the filter. The sooner it's fixed, the better.

So what you’re saying is go get an oil change and have them replace the vaccum pump and it’ll be nice and quiet again? This sounds like a reoccurring issue every so often aha

I'm just saying don't blow it off. It will only cause more damage down the road.

Once I get up to speeds I can’t tell but then as I slow down again to stop I can hear again. I tried my best to get as much video of different areas of the engine bay. I can’t take it in as the dealership is closed at the moment before anyone says to do so.. I know.

That's pretty similar to how my car sounds.

The high pressure fuel pump ticks pretty loud. Most other people have a cricket noise on top of the ticking, which somewhat masks it.

Not my video, but a good representation.

Other than a leaky front cover that was fixed under warranty all I've done under the hood is change the oil and put in a new battery. It's still on the original plugs and serpentine belt and at 119,000 the car is getting the best mpg's it's ever gotten. I'm pretty hesitant to get the recall work done in a few weeks but while the motor is out I'm going to have them do all of the regular maintenance that I've been putting off because they're only going to charge for parts and not add any extra labor $$ so as long as they don't screw up the reassembly I should be good to go for another 6 years.

The TOB shit the bed for good around 92k so I had to get a clutch but otherwise mechanically the car has been pretty solid other than I got a pair of the typical crap Subie rear wheel bearings so had to change them 2 months ago, that was fun It doesn't burn oil and it doesn't go through coolant like many seem to. Maybe I got lucky

Yeah I've been thinking about it for a few months since I made the appointment and still can't decide if having the work done is the right thing to do.

It is not a case of right or wrong.
I would rather have the privilege of destroying my own engine than letting some "talented technician" loose with my car.

Good to have some reassurance on higher mileage BRZs. Figured they’d be pretty reliable should everything be taken care of properly.

On that note, what’s the highest mileage twin you have seen? Highest I think I’ve seen was like 140k. Mine is a 2015 with 43,000 which feels like nothing compared to others closer to 60k-80k for the same year lol

don't feel bad, there are quite a few 2013's that are weekend toys that still have less than 10,000 miles.
