As far as the new C8.... I love the exterior and most of the interior. The strip of buttons, idk....I think I could live with it. The slanted floating tablet.....WHY!?!?!?!?!? Its even more obnoxious than the supra or current crop of mazdas. GTFOH with that.
Honestly never been a fan of the Corvette. The exterior is still ehh, but definitely more exotic and less American looking. The Corvette's interior has always been its low point, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the interior looking so good. The cockpit, wrap-around setup is awesome in my book, and while the tablet screen isn't perfect, it looks much better than many of the competitors out there. This is the first Corvette that I would totally consider owning. It isn't at the top of the list, but it would be up there. GM did a great job overall.

My coworker with a 2017 M2 is already saying he'll trade in in about a year or two for this. Crazy lol.

The Corvette always had a specific market it appealed to (I would stereotypically say most are middle aged Americans with a midlife crisis), but it was always trying to take on some of the more worldwide leaders in the sports car world (like Porsche). I think it was more than competitive in terms of performance but that was all it had going for it (that and pricing, it was always more affordable than the other guys)
The C7 imo was the first one to actually look like it belonged with that group and the C8 now looks like it can take on the exotics. In the end its still a Corvette, so it still has all the pros and cons of being a Corvette.

I don't get it. How is this not ringing as too good to be true?

In the year 2020, with all of the fixed costs related to developing and manufacturing a car, especially when factoring in America labor, how can GM sell a low volume, new from the ground up product, built in a retooled factory, for $60k?

Or am I setting my expectations to high? Like I'm thinking about this like a bargain McLaren, when really I should be thinking about it like a V8 kit car with working airbags and a warranty.

It's proof that all the internet experts who said the supra had to be a rebadged z4 because Toyota could never afford to make an all new sports car from the ground up at a reasonable price in today's world were all totally full of crap.

My bet would be they will be taking a loss on the base models they sell for the $60k price point. All the money to be made will be in the higher option cars, and I am guessing we will see some down the road exceeding $100k.

The $60k number is doing exactly what they wanted, shock and awe and every car forum in existence is talking about the car. The other bomb drop was the right hand drive which is making waves in multiple countries.

I've always had a manual in the fleet, since my first car in 2002. I'm a die-hard manual owner. I would (will?) own this one. Light grey over black, black wheels, red seat belts, red calipers. Base model other than that, maybe leather. Shifting a DCT wide open near redline is fantastic. I don't believe I've ever felt a better transmission than the AMG GTR. While a DCT isn't exactly manual, it's a whole world better than "automatic".

How about a Cayman with a truck engine and interior built in Kentucky by $18/hour laborers instead of Unionized Germans?

The whole floating tablet thing is becoming standard, and it's disgusting across the board.

The c7 IMO has a nicer interior layout.

Overall this basically makes any competitor null and void if it performs how they claim. Especially if it comes in at the price they're saying. Claiming this exterior or corvettes in general as "ehh" doesnt carry much weight when driving a twin.

Think of it as a Corvette, and then it makes sense.

Corvettes have always been price/performance bargains for anyone looking for a sports car, but they only really only appealed to specific buyers.

Just because its mid engine and has a exotic looking body doesn't automatically make it an exotic.

Now its just a really sexy Corvette.

Two pedals = automatic regardless of the transmission behind the engine.
