I would still take the BRZ. Cars I have considered buying: Exige, Cayman, G40R. But when I stop and think about it these cars would not do much more than my existing car. Sure, I could go faster but I'm not racing. It would be pointless spending the extra money for close to zero extra driving pleasure. The only reason I'm buying the BRZ is my current car is getting tired. (It's 9 years old and it's been well used by me.) For me the pleasure is in the driving, not the machine I am driving. I spent 6 months in Western Europe and leased a 206 Diesel. I always wanted more power (it was only 68kW but the 200Nm was impressive) but I enjoyed thrashing it mercilessly. I drove a 360 Modena at Thruxton, saw 140 mph down the straight, realised I didn't have the talent to do it justice and still enjoyed driving the 206 more on winding twisty roads in mainland Europe. That's right, I enjoyed driving a shitty little French car more than an Italian masterpiece.

I think the G40R is much much closer to a race car than the BRZ/86. In my mind the BRZ is a car that can be tracked, the G40R is a race car that had been made road worthy.
I spoke to this crowd at the beginning of the year. They were looking to get the G40R into aus. Around $85k if I remember correctly. http://williamsraceservices.com.au/news.php but that page hasn't been updated since about January. (scroll down "Ginetta G40R for Australia") |

Super light weight, extremely balanced, limited edition "race car for the street"
"I'd throw a turbo on it" Lulz. I'd still take the BRZ, simply because I've owned cars like this before, and as a DD they get old quickly. They are fun a couple times a week, but they wear you down fast, especially if you have a long commute. I drove my BRZ on a 1000m round trip road trip in June and was comfortable the whole way. I don't think I would say the same about this thing.

If the G40R was available here in the US with a miata motor for about the same price point as the FR-S and was proved to be daily driver reliable I would sell my FR-S in an instant...
I love the FR-S, but the G40R is what I really want in sports car... extremely well engineered no compromise/no drivers aid car at an affordable price. It just has to be $30k or less... which is highly doubtful it would be as it's 29k pounds already before importation/ETC costs and US price roughly come to 2x cost (ariel atom, Ulima GTR, etc....) If there is ever a sub $30k USD purchasable factory built coupe with no compromise for handling and lightness just like the G40R and has Toyota daily driver reliability I would sell my FR-S for it... There has yet for one to be made in the US, and I highly doubt one could ever be made available...

I don't like the tail lights or the front piece. If they had changed those, this car would be a killer, but one piece front ends are a huge turn off to me.
