My neighbor bought an asphalt FRS. Now my DGM BRZ has a twin in the neighborhood. I wonder if he's on the forum.

Enjoy the car man, it's awesome!

Hope to catch you at the local meet ups if you are on this forum. Sorry we didn't get a chance to introduce ourselves to one another. Maybe next time!

I've seen you Alex in the greenbrier area a few times. I have an asphalt FRS and work in the greenbrier as well.

I'll have you know that I am, in fact, a forum member. I'm just lazy. Anyway, I took an off ramp too quickly, lifted off the gas and the rear end swung out. I over-corrected and ended up whipping it around the other way. Hit the guard rail facing backwards at probably 20-30 mph. From what I can tell, and what I've heard from the body shop, I don't think there has been any permanent damage. The passenger rear quarterpanel will need replaced for sure, passenger curtain air bag was deployed and will need reset. They are still in the process of taking it apart to check for any suspension/alignment issues, but it looked like the guard rail only hit things above the wheel.

I am perfectly fine, but riding bike every day is tiring. Insurance will cover it (minus deductible of course) and, since it was my first at-fault claim, I get accident forgiveness so my rates will not change. I'm hoping everything will be fixed in time for my next autocross event later this month.

Also, if anyone else has been in a situation like this, I have a question. If there is suspension damage and it needs replaced, would it be possible to get insurance to pay (at least partially) for after market replacement? Coilovers have been on my list of future upgrades in the next year or two, but if part of the suspension needs replaced, why not go all they way? I wouldn't expect the insurance company to cover the entire cost if the replacements cost more than stock parts, but if I could get them to chip in the cost of the stock parts, I'd consider upgrading to coilovers now as opposed to later.

Hopefully the pictures got attached correctly, although I didn't really get a good picture of the damage. I was more focused on getting pictures of the surrounding area for insurance purposes.

Oh dang, hopefully your car gets repaired soon.
As far as the aftermarket parts, I would talk to your insurance rep. When I had A4, some of the guys in the forum talked to their insurance rep and replaced their bumpers with DTM version. I'm not sure about the suspension part though. Since only rear right is damaged, not sure if they will step up and let you upgrade to aftermarket...

PS. Take that Koons sticker as soon as you get your car back!

It depends on the insurance company, but some of them will send you a check if you ask to choose to pick your own place to get the work done. You can then use that check for whatever.

The only problem is if it ends up being more than it was quoted for, it could be hard to get the money.

Rear quarter panel isn't really a panel at all. Here's a picture of the frame. Note that the panel you're talking about actually includes the piece over the roof/door and comes down through the A-pillar.

I did get a hold of my insurance agent. I can replace the suspension replaced with aftermarket components, but the insurance company will only pay for what stock components cost. So, if stock suspension costs $1000 and lets say I wanted to upgrade to KW V3's at $2000, my insurance would only cover half of it and the rest would have to come out of pocket. To me this is entirely reasonable. I'm still hoping that the suspension won't need replaced as I was hoping to keep my upgrades for the year limited to just wheels, tires, and brakes.

sure its a panel. its just a single piece of sheet metal. now if you meant its not a bolt on panel, you are correct. it will be sectioned half way up the c pillar and down at the rocker near the rear of the door. the whole sail panel will not be replaced. quarters almost never come with the full rocker and sail panel sheet metal anyway. they are already sectioned at the OEM collision approved locations so the structure stays within the spec that the factory wants. full uni side will come with the full quarter, sail panel, rocker, etc in one piece.

It's actually illegal in MD to put a dealer sticker on the car w/o owners consent.

On that note, I believe the sticker added far too much hp which was the real reason for the accident and therefore the dealer must pay!

I actually left the Lustine sticker on for awhile. It had to come off, though, as it was in the way of the Five Axis spoiler.
