When sales start to slow down they can always introduce the convertible and a larger 2.5L engine that runs on regualr gas. Then there are the TRD/STI versions sitting in the wings.

i think all the followers of these twins have waited long for an affordable rwd sports car, and their prayers have been answered by the 25k price tag of the fr-s; but with dealerships keeping the brz over 30k, it pushes the car out of the means of the potential buyer. |

Thats what kills me about buying a new car.
I work in retail and as the old saying goes "the price is the price" meaning thats what it says on the tag thats what you pay plus tax no more. Dealers just tick me off with that build up for there commission knowing full well thats the car I came in for. Give me a cashier at the door and here's the lone I got from the bank for 28k. Granted I know that wont change anything but it felt good to vent.

I was originally thinking BRZ, but I like the front styling of the FR-S better. Price matters too. When you get to $33K, you are now close to the price of a Cadillac ATS Turbo. Admittedly a very different car, but there are buyers like me who are considering both. I think the FR-S looks better, but the Caddy is faster and has more usable back seats and a nicer interior. The price is the thing that has me leaning heavily towards the FR-S. When you price the BRZ close to that kind of car, well you get a lot more competition.
Someone mentioned the SVX. I miss mine. That was a great car. Cornered really well even though it was a fat pig. I wish it had a little more headroom and 50 more horsepower. If it did, i would still own it. Joel |

What do you make of the numbers from June vs July? I guessed that many of the June sold units were prebuilt before the actual launch of the car. Where as July sold units were an actual monthly build/allocation units for the US.

Obviously there were more available at the innitial launch, as they had prepared a certain # before releasing them, so more would be moved at that time.. And then when you get the innitial fan-boy rush out of the way, you get a lower number of customers interested. I doubt they are producing as many monthly as they had readily available for that first batch of sales, so it would be impossible really to match those #'s monthly. IMO doesn't reflect at all on demand at this point. The wait-lists can attest to that. The only thing I could see the magazines bashing is... Toyota/Subaru not producing enough to meet demands, based on underestimating said demand. |

Having worked for one of these companies for many years I would like to submit that they are extremely good and predicting sales. Check the days of inventory for either brand on any model and compare to American companies. These guys are slick.

When I was shopping for my car, one dealer told me that Scion planned on making 15k the first year, and 20k per year after that. I don't know where he got the numbers but looks like they are still above pace if true.
A lot of people, even on this forum, won't buy a car without seeing / test driving. Once people see these cars driving around I bet there will be a second wave of interest. |
