Looking to buy 2014 high

So with all my loans finally out of the way, I'm looking to pick up a second hand 86. My budget is about R240 k and I'm hoping to find a 2014 High model - this forum and reddit seem to advise staying away from the 2012s/2013s. I know beggars can't be choosers, but would be quite pleased with a charcoal grey or galaxy blue model.

Not in a rush, so perhaps I'll be able to find one in the next few months. Reckon I'm being too ambitious with my price point?

Misguided internet advice to stay away from 13.
The differences between years are trivial and irrelevant.
Find a car in great condition that was not owned by an idiot who abused it.

Don't know that the South African cars had the same early model issues that the North American 13s suffered from so that may not be a problem there. Also not sure of what the availability of used ones is so be careful taking price advice from Americans or you could sit waiting for a price point you will never ever see.

Don't be worried about getting a 2012 or 13, yes they are more likely to have an engine bearing issues but if it has its Toyota (not 3rd party) extended warranty Toyota will cover the cost of fixing it. If anyone in the cape town club is selling, I will post here.

Thanks for that

If the 2012/2013 really isn't such an issue it will open up a lot of opportunities. I'm also willing to travel to almost anywhere in the country to pick up, and even CPT isn't an issue, since I have family there.

Plenty 2012/2013 models on our local 86 chat group - no serious issues, just the usual gear lever rattle and clutch release bearings. They should all have gotten the A01G software update as well.

Bear in mind we didn't get the very early "launch" models, the std spec launched around June 2012 and High spec late August.

The only real changes that happened later on was the upgraded radio, boot spoiler on high spec, sharkfin antenna and different dash panel on the later models. Mechanically all the same.

Are earlier models prone to DI seal failure? I have a 2014 but it was manufactured in September of 2013.

By that time the new ROM was already available. Mine was loaded April 2013.

This kind of info is really helpful. Also means I can take the wife car shopping with me so she can finally see what I'm so excited about. All she wants at the end of the day is a car with a touch screen raido

Thread bump!

Seems December / January may be buying time.
Still looking for either the charcoal grey or galaxy blue High 86 as 1st prize, but other colours are welcome too.
Budget is R240 000.

Drop me a PM (I'll probably post on the Telegram group soonish too).

How's the car going noodle?
I have absolutely loved mine... almost 5 years later and I still enjoy driving it.

Gotta say it's been great learning too - did a few small mods and have just done a SC kit. It's only made the car even more fun!
