When I was a Wee McGee in the fourth grade, maybe fifth, I was learning to play trumpet. I sucked at trumpet. My fat lips couldn't form half the notes let alone hold them, and I would frequently say there was something wrong with the instrument. At one point, the instructor asked for the trumpet, took out my mouthpiece, used his own, and proceeded to play Jericho perfectly fine. He then handed the instrument back to me and said "trumpet's fine." Kind of a jerk move to pull on a 10 year old, but it did stick with me to not blame equipment when I screw up.

Some people never learned that lesson.

That said, I don't have anything to do with engineering MFA, and actually prefer CA with machine authentication in a business environment; however, I've never had an issue with it either. Because it's simple. Really damn simple.
Any system that fails for a large number of people is a flawed system. Any system that generates a tremendous number of support requests is flawed.
For instance, the website that used name, password, and auth code through google. Then I had to factory reset my phone. Oops! Off to support. Then the site runner posted an angry rant about it. Yeah, no thanks.

Any system that takes significantly extra time to deal with is a flawed system. Wanna log in? Better have your phone with you. Wanna log in? Better have your email account handy and open. Wanna log in? How about some odd personal details you probably won't remember. Remember this computer? Maybe. Probably not. I mean, we use Facebook or Google or something to track you across all the advertising websites.

My son had trouble with his backhand. He was hitting outside of the sweet spot again and again. Hand him another racket, a bigger one. Now he's hitting the sweet spot every time. He'd outgrown the tool. In other words, sometimes the trombone is the problem.

Now my son has a bigger racket and does an off-handed backhand. He hits noticeably better. A good teacher is worth a lot.

I'm sorry your teacher traumatized you. Also maybe trumpet wasn't for you. That's a fact your **** teacher should have realized. Either way, you learned the wrong lesson.

I've always wanted to see one running. I think I'd be mesmerized by it.

At a gymnastics place my kids went to, they put one in. They had to reverse the direction of airflow to blow upwards. All their banners on the walls were being blown off.

Oh 100% if you are anything like me. Really wanted to chuck a smoke grenade in the rafters, but that kind of thing is frowned on.

I prefer to see how I can best adapt to the situation I'm in to best respond to it. It's worked out quite well for me. You prefer to see how you can alter the situation to see how it best fits what you want. I presume it's worked out quite well for you. So long as we both understand to not take either approach to the extreme. That likely results in a lovely blend of futility and douchebaggery.

What I don't like is you stating your personal issues with a technology as a universal truth, while making statements that demonstrate your lack of understanding on how they work. For example; websites use cookies to retain session information, in addition to advertisement and use tracking. If you're having an issue with sites not remembering that you've registered a device, the most likely explanations are that you've declined a GDPR inspired pop-up about using cookies, or are using a browser or add-in marketed on privacy that doesn't differentiate properly between session cookies and ad cookies. It is also possible that, in the interest of privacy, your browser has been configured to clear out all cache and cookies upon exit. Of course there are many other possibilities. These are just the most likely and if you're interested in correcting that issue, I hope it helps.

That said, have I ever come across someone having that issue? Nope. It is just from knowing the tech. You being the first person I've heard complain about it does help to show that even while it could be regionally common (read: I'm not saying you're the only person in the world with it), it isn't universally common. Noting that I work in security for a company with offices in 120 different countries, and that utilizes MFA for remote logon to web based applications.

As for Google and Apple pushing SSO. They're doing so in order to gain insight into the other sites you use on a regular basis beyond what they already have. They partner with the sites you use and control your authentication in order to share what other sites you logon to with those partners. It's part of how they make their money. Of course they're going to market to people who are frustrated and having issues and play on those frustrations.

Not that MFA is perfect. Again, I prefer machine registration and CA. It is less intrusive, and in a business environment the devices are more tightly controlled. However, I don't believe it is inherently or universally flawed. I'm also pretty sure the employees at the company I work for aren't the only ones in the world who have infrequent issues with MFA.

Side note: as tinfoil had laden as the bit on Apple and Google may sound, I'm not necessarily saying its an entirely bad thing. It's just how that market works.

Anyway, back to throwing smoke bombs into giant ceiling fans constructed of the Jolly Green Giant's hockey stick collection.

Sounds like they shouldn't have installed such a big ass fan.

I don't believe you have told the "fat lip" story before -

I liked the passwords of back in the day - just 4 of anything -

For that very reason, it was wise to maneuver to be #1 on the "chalk list" - you were upstream of any puke and couldn't hear the gasps from the newbies.

I'm upset with VW and their redemption campaign. I'm also upset because it'll probably work. :/

Cleaned the window frames on the van project. Then took a break from the van and worked on my bar. I got given a truck load of cabinet doors and trim to play with. Also, I finally got an iconic TRC-975 Jumbo boombox for the bar.

It's happy hour!
