Closest dealership still have all 3 FRS RS 1.0 (2 manual, and 1 auto), once again stalled in the lot and this time it is the RS 1.0 they had out on the lot. I cringed when the salesman drove over the curb to put the car from display ready for test driving on the lot. Played with the auto again, and it has grown on me too like Blitzenn has mentioned.

Though I was planning on taking the leasing route, should I lease a RS 1.0? The offer after putting money down is what is getting my attention on leasing, but I also heard that leasing a car in general is not a good thing. Sorry for asking such car noob buying questions, but it will be my first car that I will pay with my own money.

You may get 50 different answers to that question but here is my 2 cents worth.
Presuming that you don't put huge miles on it I would say buy vs lease for an RS.1.
Contrary to what the Release haters on here think, these cars will likely hold their value much better than a base model. If you are leasing then you lose that value at the end of the term since the buy out price (if you want to keep it) is the same no matter what the value is.
So you need to think of these things:
1) Do you put loads of miles on your car? = Buy
2) Do you plan on changing vehicles after the lease period? = Lease
3) Do you plan on modding? = Buy
4) Not sure which way you want to go down the road? = Lease and buy out at end (not the best choice but an option)

Ah thanks Tcoat, #4 is the route I am planning. What's wrong with Lease and buy out at the end?

Nothing horrible. It just costs you a bit more in the end unless you have the cash to pay out the balance. If you have too finance the buy out funds you are sort of paying twice.

@Tcoat the RS 1.0 is no different from the base model FR-S they don't keep their resell value.

Special note this is a automatic RS 1.0 with a clear carfax history.

Really? I would have thought they would like any other special edition car.
OH well never mind what I said before then!

You can't judge resale value on a car that is on a month or two old..Of course it's going to be less than a new one. Lipton also has a new one marked down to 30K. All cars loose value the second you drive it off the lot. The question is how is it's value going to hold up 3-4 years down the road. I felt good enough about it that I put 30K+ of my money on it. I might be wrong, but in the mean time I have a car that I really enjoy drivng...Quite a bit more than the regular 2015 FRS that I had briefly.

@Caspeed a $10K hit is bad but with that said I didn't buy the RS 1.0 with the intent of reselling the car anytime soon.

I agree that driving this one is more fun vs the last FR-S's I've owned maybe it's because of the "Breakneck people" I see while driving the banana.

I get those even with the Lava as they are pretty rare around my parts. I have to admit I enjoy the attention as well!

I got mine at MSRP; $30,785 but mine's manual. So it's more like a 6-7K loss. It's very rare to see a 2 month old car for sale so there might be more to the story. If I was worried about resale value I would have gotten a Civic 4 door.

The point of this is if the RS1 will hold it's value than a standard FRS...It's still too early to tell.

As far as breakneck people I'm in Miami so it's not uncommon on a typical weekend to see several Ferraris, Lambos, Masseratis, Bentleys, AMG SLKs etc. So this car doesn't stand out as much as it might in other places.

It's just fun to drive...I just wish we had better roads, ie; more curves, hills etc.

.
Maybe I should have been clearer when I spoke of holding value. I wasn't talking about next week or even next year but more like 10 years down the road. That is when the gap between special editions and stock versions will usually start to show.
Of course any new car depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot and the true long value can take years to settle into place.

I'm considering a release series 1.0 but had some questions, hoping you guys who already have one could help me out.

How well do pictures represent the yellow? Does it look the same in person as in pictures or is it more metallic or flat.. etc?

Any regrets from getting the Release Series vs saving a few grand and getting a BRZ with similar options such as the HID, keyless entry, etc. (minus the exterior cosmetics)? Or regrets on the release series overall? I'm looking at a few BRZs that are sitting around 25k-26k, a significant chunk of change from 30k for the release series.

How does the TRD quad exhaust sound? Anybody planning on swapping the exhaust? I want to throw on a Nameless axleback but obviously the retangular cutouts don't fit most of the dual exhausts out there.
