First Oil Change

Have You done yours yet, what would you do yours at?

I just finished the break in procedure(1600km) and I'm wondering if its time to change it up now.

When I was breaking in my Z I threw on an oil filter magnet and a magnetic oil drain plug. Some might argue that it may not do much but they were cheap and If it works to trap shavings I figure why the hell not. I still use them both.

http://www.shopfiltermag.com/tech.php#technology

I believe I got the magnet through Summit Racing. Serveral people make the drain bolts. I'd probably go with a brand you've heard of. Mines Peak Performance (I know the shop that make them personally so I got that). I recently saw an ad for Mishimoto who now makes them, Greddy, Kicks, ircuit Sports, NRG ECT. I don't use the Nissan paper element filters either (not sure what Subaru uses), I use the K&N ones. Lastly for the oil I like, Walmart has most of the local auto parts store beat on price so check there too.

I will probably do mine at around 2000km. I think there will be quite a bit of debris after the break in.

I love the idea of the filter magnet but you can't really see how much metal shavings that the motoring was making.

A magnetic drain bolts makes more sense.

This is the one that I got for my car !

Would the metal shavings be stuck in the oil tank if I used one of these drain valves?

I use both. I understand what you are saying but wouldn't you rather have the filter magnet (which has several more strong neodium magnets than the bolt) there to get any extra shavings the bolt doesn't? Whether you get to see them or not is just kind of making you feel good about your purchase lol. Obviously either one is a good idea if you can't afford both though.

it can if you take a hacksaw to it.

So I went in to Toyotato get the oil changed at 3000km, the guy there told me come back at 5000 because we "should not change the oil too early" and that "Changing it after 2000km is old school thinking and not the case anymore"

thoughts?

i changed mine at 2500 at mr.lube, brought in my own oil and filter, told them to put the name of the oil in the memo field.

if you're not gonna hit the track, i say do it according to the manufacturer

if you're gonna rip on the engine, ignore everything the techs say.

Is it needed that early? Probably not, but I can't leave anything alone. I don't recall the exact mileage, but I changed my oil at about 2000 KMs, and followed up by changing the transmission (manual) and rear end lube at around 3000.

You do not have to change the transmission and diff fluid for the life of the vehicle as per the Toyota Canada FR-S training.
