PWC team has 2 engine failures at Utah.

Congrats to Eric Powell and Tech Sport Racing for scoring a TCA win in race 2 this weekend. However I'd really like more info regarding the 2 motors they blew before placing P1 with a third engine.

I assisted troubleshooting the issues and the team may be able to chime in with more info. Engine 1 was delivered to the team with 15W-50 oil which is way too thick, especially at our elevation. The car also had an elaborate oil routing system with huge lines and no Accusump. I suspect an oil pressure issue caused the 2nd engine to blow. Complicating all of this was a very tight mesh behind the OEM grille. It is extremely hard to cool cars at 4000ft and 100 degree weather when you're trying to rev them to 8000 rpm. But, Eric then raced from last to finish first on @enivid's spare motor. Their other car had a more standard oil cooling setup and did not have heat issues.

Great to see these guys in PWC TC, which is probably the most fun series/class to watch these days.

Agreed but it seems they are losing coverage to the GS classes. Shame they won't cover all the sessions considering they delay them a couple weeks anyway.

True - I'm relegated to watching them weeks after the fact when MotorTrend On Demand puts them up on my Roku box. It's a shame so sportscar racing is on CBS Sports which few people get.

I think it's a shame more people don't know about Motor Trend On Demand.

Horrendous business decision by PWC. It's bad enough they got bumped down to CBS SportsNetwork which, as you say, few people get but then to compound it by no longer offering your races streaming free of charge....

I do get the CBS Sports Network from my cable company but the coverage for PWC is shrinking. It's always been delayed a couple weeks but now they only broadcast GT and SprintX. There is virtually no coverage of the TC classes. Meanwhile DTM, Australian supercars and a variety of others get lots of air time.

They broadcasted the GT/SprintX, GTS, and TC races from UMC. They don't usually do that, but they always do when they come here for some reason.

Finally watched the broadcast.

Why were they saying the RS3 was front-wheel drive and then talking about a differential failure??

The RS3 LMS is front wheel drive. It uses a tuned 2.0L and DSG from the A3 / Golf R, not the street car's 5 cylinder and AWD. The engine and trans are bone stock aside from tuning and can handle 500hp without issue. The diff failure was from contact, not a mechanical failure. They are hands down the best built / most reliable purpose built race car you can buy. They are also EXTREMELY fast. The PWC TC BOP (balance of performance) has the RS3 neutered in order to be competitive. As delivered, the RS3 is a TCR car, which will be competing in IMSA next year as they are opening up a full TCR class. Hopefully PWC does the same. In TCR trim, the car is 350hp. In PWC TC trim, the car has a 290hp ECU, 70% throttle stop, 3 deg camber limit (vs. 5.0), and 200+lbs of ballast. Put that in perspective! In full TCR trim, the car is as fast as the R8 GT4.

I (and our whole team) actually ended up on the TV broadcast for all three races haha. We were planning to compete in SprintX with our Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo, but unfortunately big contact in a previous race prevented the car from being ready in time.
