New FRS in Houston

Hey everybody... the story of how I made my way to this car and eventually this website is a little unusual, and kind of long, but I'll give you the cliff notes.

I'm a truck guy. After having a 2001 Mustang in college, I always said I would never drive a car again, unless it was my second, "weekend thrills"-type vehicle.

I left my job with a company truck, and got a new job without a company vehicle, and added a 60+ mile/day commute in the process. After sharing my fiance's Camaro RS for a month, I realized being a one-car family was a nightmare and I needed a car to get me to and from work, and that's about it, until I could afford a new truck.

I looked at the Hyundai Veloster first because it had good gas mileage and was unique looking, plus the tech that came standard was great. Before I made my first new-car purchase at the Hyundai dealership, I remembered back when I was at a Toyota dealership looking at the new Tundras, I had seen a Scion FR-S sitting out front and thought, "hmmm that's a cool-looking car, Scion must have really stepped their game up"... and went on about my business. I told the Hyundai salesman that I was sold, but that I had to at least give the FR-S a shot and that as long as it wasn't a complete blast to drive, I would come back and buy the Veloster. 2 days later, I drove an hour and a half to Beaumont to pick up my brand new 2015 Asphalt FR-S lol.

I fell in love immediately. The test drive was the most fun I have had since I was 16 and first got behind the wheel of my '89 Jeep Wrangler. I thought I had just purchased a fun, little commuter car that would allow me to at least salvage my man card a little over an Elantra, Accord, etc... I had no idea I was joining a group of owners that are all such huge fans of a car with such humble, respected beginnings. Little did I know I would end up falling in love with my car in such a major way.

This car rocks. This forum rocks. I made a great decision at that Hyundai dealership

(And THAT was the short version)

Welcome to the club! I got a lot of flak from a few friends of mine for buying the FR-S, but when it came down to it the reason I bought it was because I found it fun. It makes the morning drive a bit less boring, and it makes weekend trips amazing. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks! And I couldn't agree more. The best parts of my day are now my drive to and from work... and that's saying something in Houston traffic.

Hey everyone, i just got my 2015 FRS rs 1.0 last week. So far i really like to drive it around. Getting a lot of people turn their head around which i dont get much on my SRT-4 neon. My FRS needs now is some boost to make it even more fun to drive it around. Got the looks and handling, just missing a snail under the hood.

Look into the Forced Induction side of the site for some advice! I'd suggest the Jackson Racing Supercharger.

Hi all...

Was looking at a BMW for my next car.

Read about the FR-S in the Automobile Magazine All Star issue a week ago Saturday. That night I drove home in a new 2015 Ultramarine FR-S.

Definitely the most fun I've had in a car.

Upgrading audio first, then we'll see.

Cheers!

Lee

New to the forum (and forums in general).

[QUOTE=Caspian;2009698]Was looking at a BMW for my next car.

More fun for the $ with the 86. Master Bimmer tech here. Mine is and will remain my daily driver-fantastic car but looking to start tracking and past experience has learned me to not track your daily driver. Can't wait to pick up an 86 for springtime auto-x and track days!!! Any new BMW-while refined in many aspects, and great, and has ass massagers/coolers/heaters, and prestige (barf)-cost too much and has unnecessary weight and cost for my goals for the track. Fantastic engineering and quality of materials, but the frs/brz has more malleability and I can change things about it at my own pace. BMW-Bring My Wallet.
