Street racing

New here and been reading on your posts on this forum. I love that so many members here save their need for speed for the tracks.

I've been following this story for a bit and so far the update is that the driver is now being charged with murder 2. Sometimes with our cars you might feel the need for speed but being stupid is not worth it because families will change forever because you decided you wanted to be stupid in the heat of the moment. 2 of the victims were only 18 and 19 years old.

Just to save everyone the trouble, two cars a Dodge Challenger, Charger where responsible for causing a crash that killed 3 people. One of the cars lost control that caused the crash.

Now, that being said it sucks it happened but it really doesn't apply to us. We all know those people can't drive for beans. Straight line only.

It does, when people associate modified cars w/ wreckless street racers that have no regard for life.

The more we don't care about this, the more the laws will change to target enthusiasts.... it's already happening, LAPD is cracking down on street racing in ways I've not seen since the early 1990s, and some of it is dragnet-type responses that lump ALL enthusiasts as street racers.

They need to open up more drag strips in SoCal. They abandoned airports and tracks are there.
But then no one will go because cops will be present and modified vehicles are illegal. So in the end, people will continue to street race.

While I agree street racers are first-class idiots who are too lazy or cheap to take it to the track/drag strip, I think charging the guy with 2nd degree murder is too much. As stupid as he was, he didn't intend to kill anyone, so unless we want to start charging drunk drivers and drivers who text with murder in cases like this, I think it's the wrong call by the prosecutor.

The only way I think a 2nd degree murder charge is even remotely warranted is if he had multiple street racing or reckless driving tickets on his record, and even then I think it's a stretch.

It's true all over the country they are closing airports and race tracks to build stripmalls, walmarts, and condo complexes. Then people wonder why their kids are killing themselves doing drugs or street racing.. There should be a law that each county needs some kind of racetrack and airport just like it needs parks, electrcity, and water.

Electricity and water? Lol

Race tracks are not a necessity. There are plenty of track days available, especially here in California, where this incident happened. As a matter of fact, there was an event the weekend this happened.

People are always going to justify reasons for doing stupid shit on the streets. It sucks, but it's the truth. That's why I get pissed off every time I see somebody on their damn phone while they're driving. All it shows is that they have no consideration for anybody but themselves. Innocent people get killed because people choose not to pay attention, or act a fool while they're driving. AND THEN they sit there and say it was an "accident".

95% of the incidents I've see aren't accidents. They could have easily been avoided had one driver not had their head up their ass.

Maybe in Cali, here in CT we have 2 tracks and they are in the far corners of the state. I'm not condoning street racing (especially not in traffic), but it is kind of a trip and kind of expensive to get track time here. Not that racing is a cheap sport..

They hit him with murder 2 so that they could get a manslaughter plea or conviction.

Yeah I could see it as posturing to gain leverage, but doesn't really sit right with me

Go to trial, no deals, he can get off on murder 2. (With a good lawyer) I'm not routing for this guy but that's how you stick it to the man when they charge improperly.
