Any of you have the raw footage? Maybe using Adobe Premier we can extract the frame. Who do I share a DropBox folder with?

Probably more effective having complaints from multiple people rather than multiple complaints from one person

I called Clackamas County Sheriff's Dept., got referred to State Police because it's a state hwy. The state police just took down my explanation of the event and gave me a case number. To quote the officer I talked to: "There's nothing the police can do at this point. All you can do is file a small claims case against them."

So.... unless we can get some investigating done to get the company that truck belongs to and find out the plate number of that truck, we can't do anything.

Talked to my insurance today, with the current situation, all I can do is file an auto glass claim to fix my windshield, but that's a deductible out of my own wallet.

Gaw... It would be cheaper to just replace the windshield than filing a claim

Windshields are 500 for this car. My deductible is 250. According to my agent, doing an auto glass claim wont ding my rates.

Oh, that's what this is about. Well, I can tell you my experience but you won't like it.

I was overtaking a full gravel truck with it's load uncovered on I-84, saw the rock fall off, bounce and destroy the $1,800 w/s on my FJ Cruiser. No video, but got the plate, trucking company name, driver description, date/time, location, etc. I called the trucking co. and they told me tough luck.

So I called my attorney who said it would be a waste of time in small claims court since there was no way to prove to a judge if it came off the truck or was already on the road (what they would say) and kicked up by it's tire.

I filed a claim and since then changed comp deductible to $0 for a small premium that's far more than paid for itself with two more w/s claims from winter gravel going to Bend.

About that $1,800 windshield: Insist on OEM. It will cost your carrier at least an extra $1,000 but there's a difference between aftermarket and OEM and it isn't optics, it's crashworthiness. I once read an independent engineering study comparing a few aftermarket w/s to Toyota's w/s. It found that OEM could withstand structural loads encountered in a rollover far better than aftermarket parts. It's forms a significant part of the roof's integrity in those type of accidents and aftermarket w/s aren't, or weren't ten years ago, up to the task.

I've referenced that study in claims with two different carriers and both bought OEM. The Toyota glass also has UVA/B protection that aftermarket may not.

A w/s claim won't affect your rates at all since it's a comp claim and not your fault.

Sorry about the glass, glad it wasn't a log rolling off that truck.

Thanks for your insight @torqdork. Yeah, it sucks because the truck was seriously going around that bend too fast for his own good, hence showering multiple cars with gravel; me receiving probably the most costly ding with my w/s breaking.

I've already gotten over it. It's an easy fix and all the other dings are just paint chips and small dents, something I'm sure a body shop could fix with little to no effort.

The key is the rock left the truck and then hit your windshield never touching the ground.

We have video, but we don't have license plate or company name of the offending truck. So filing a complaint or small claims is pretty much impossible at this point in time.
