Just because you want this to be called a Supra doesn't mean it's going to be any better or faster.

If you notice, I already mentioned that the name Sprinter is used by a Dodge van. No big deal, there in entirely different segments from entirely different manufacturers.
I personally like the supra name fits the car although i believe they will probably badge it as something new especially if it goes to scion

This car has about as much chance of being called a Supra as the red colour on the concept being called "bare-ass monkey red" on the production car here in North America.

Bra, I hate to burst your bubble, but...what?

Mainly on the bolded part. That sentence makes absolutely no sense.

ST-86 sound better. Not Subaru Toyota, but Super Toyota. lol

NO! ST is the chassis code for the Celica!

I voted "other" but I could see it being called a Celica...it looks like a Celica and I think there's something to be said for name recognition.

HOWEVER...I would like to see a new name for this car. I actually wish they'd just call it the FT-86...I dig it.

And to me the trueno or sprinter name don't really fit when I take a look at the car
I voted other for the same reason.

The "Celica" brand carries no weight with car buyers. That's why it ended with a whimper (and I still like and own mine ).

Trueno probably doesn't test well with the U.S. market. There are only so many Inital D fanboys.

Sprinter? No.

I know they didn't name the Celica the XYR concept, but FT-86 seems as good as any other car name. 335i? xA? G6?

I would rather see this thing badged as the new Corolla XRS than a Celica.

Yeah I said it.

And thats saying A LOT.

Haha, nice...but absolutely makes no sense in terms of the car.

1) its not outfitted with an A series engine
2) it's not using a corolla chassis (E), and theres no evidence that Toyota will be designating this chassis as such.
3) The next sports corolla after the AE86 was the AE92, so the numbers been skipped.

All in all though, I like where your head is at!

Actually, I just thought of another one: Toyota GT-V (GT-WEE!)

That would be pretty cool. Except it doens't make sense to Toyota at all.

The whole reason the Corolla GTS is known as the AE86... is because that is it's designation...or chassis code

for the the FT to be the AE-87

it would have to have an "A" series engine, be on the "E" Platorm, be the "8"th generation and the "7"th Model

so sorry It will never happen

I don't even know what the designation is...Non Toyota Engine? Legacy Platform? ??

thanks for the response; i dont know the history of the nomenclature like ya'll do.

so, what name would appropriately acknowledge the AE86, but also give the FT-86 a unique identity of its own (besides FT-86)?

just trying to think outside the box here.
