Question on Header Options

I've searched the site pretty extensively but have not found what I'm looking for. Hopefully, someone can point me in the right direction.

I'm looking for header options to use with the stock catback, overpipe, and midpipe. Below are the details of the application I'm considering.

Edelbrock or Sprintex Supercharger
EL Header with high flow catalytic converter
Balance of the exhaust system stock
ECU tuned for FI w/header

I'm looking for sound/video clips because I'm pretty particular about the sound I'm looking for or actually to avoid.

I can't handle an exhaust that drones. Some time ago I built up a 2000 Mustang GT with FI, shorty header, X-pipe, and Magnaflow Catback completely CAT free. The sound was absolutely great... at 100 feet away. The drone inside the car was so bad I had to wear ear muffs if I drove it more than 20 minutes.

The GT86 is a great little sports car but suffers from a power (actually torque) deficit and the exhaust is a little subdued. I'm thinking I can improve the exhaust flow a bit with an EL header and, at the same time wake up the exhaust note. I shouldn't have a drone problem with an EL header and stock catback since the OEM exhaust manifold is close to EL.

I also don't much care for the thumping/rumbling exhaust note that a UEL header provides.

So, anybody know of a sound clip for an EL catted header with otherwise stock exhaust system?

Thanks in advance.

You'll have zero drone with a stock catback. You can replace your Header/OP/FP at will.

Why do you want cats?

Have you considered just changing the muffler..??

The OEM is a el header with a cat......right..??

Something like a nameless axle back with 5" mufflers will wake up the exhaust a bit with almost no drone.

I don't necessarily WANT cats as these are generally the exhaust choke points in the system. But, I do want (need) to pass my annual safety inspection which includes a visual check of the exhaust system.

I also know from experience that cats are very effective at reducing rasp and keeping the exhaust sound tolerable.

The OEM unit is close to EL exhaust manifold and yes it has a cat but it doesn't flow as well as I'd like. I've learned that "almost no drone" translates to ... it drones enough that you can't carry on a pleasant conversation while cruising down the highway.

OFT is an open flash tablet. The moment you get either an EL or UEL header you'll get access to an off the shelf Stage 2 tune that allows you to take full advantage of a better header.

Not sure if OFT is right if you're going supercharger route, they only support the SBD Turbo kit I believe.

With stock exhaust system really any header won't give you drones. I hate droney exhausts myself.

I *love* my P&L EL catted header with my Greddy SP Elite axle back (stock OP and FP). No drone, not too loud at all, has a nice exotic tone to it. The P&L headers are one of the few I've seen that actually have a quality high flow cat. I run it on the OFT stage 2 tune, and it totally changed how the car drives for the better - really wakes the motor up. Maybe one of these days I'll do some video.

Thanks. I'll take a look at it.
