I too believe it's the gas. My car came with crickets off the lot..switched to 91 shell and haven't heard them since.

I literally always use the same gas station (93 oct) and sometimes my car sounds like a stampeding storm of high-pitched locusts and is sometimes silent.

When I first bought the car I was only using 93 Shell. My motorcycles always liked shell best for some reason. I've been a little more lazy with where I fill up (still always premium) I'll try only using shell and see if it keeps them away. Just got my car back last night. Man was I glad to get out of that corolla.

I went from 91 Shell to 91 Chevron and it minimized the crickets significantly. It did take ~4-6 fillups before it was noticeable.
