Take advantage of this deal, folks! I know a lot of people were hesitant to pay the shipping costs, so here's your chance to save.

Got the e-mail this morning. If you're on the fence, this is a good deal.

I've never had navigation in a car before and I have the standard FR-S stereo right now (not the touch screen) so can someone help me out a bit.

How does this do navigation? I assume the GPS antenna pulls your location and gives you turn by turn right? You don't have to load the maps in there beforehand do you?

This unit doesn't come with any navigation software built in. You have to use Google Maps with a tethered phone or download/purchase a navigation app that has downloadable maps.

The GPS antenna only gives the unit its latitude and longitude coordinates. The map/nav software then takes that and figures out where you are on the map. Most Android map/nav apps don't store the map data locally, they download it on the fly, meaning an active data connection is required. There are a few that do store the maps locally, though.

I don't have an answer on the MCU issue, but I did have to ship mine back to China as well. It only took about 3 weeks (US Post) and they sent me the shipping fee by PayPal. It was annoying but not awful.

I haven't tried, but I agree it would be awesome. Right now I'm using the app Flippr (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...i.flippr&hl=en) in order to show the Pandora widget overlaid on top of waze, it works great.

Can one not just dump the ROM with the "special" launcher and apps, and then recode them to work for 4.1-4.4.4 and/or L?

Then load all of that onto a Nexus tablet.

I'd much rather have the Nexus 7/8 with far superior specs and updates and support than this. Not to mention 1/3rd the price.

A tablet will not give you the sound quality of a proper head unit.

4.4 alone would be nice, it has far better performance on low end hardware. Though we might just have to wait for the next version of the headunit for 4.4 or L

Yeah, IIRC the manufacturer of the cpu has to release drivers for each new version of android before ROMs can be built properly. Since I don't believe we even know what chip is in these I'm becoming doubtful that will happen on this hardware. What do we have again? 1 GHz ARM7 single core?

Singlecore CPUs are for WinCE unit or older 2.3 Dashlinq models. Android 4.x won't run well on singlecore CPUs.

The Dashlinq4 has a MST786 Cortex A9 dualcore with 1GHz clock, the same CPU as the AN-21 U.
