The "Evasive 86" Nostril Mod
First and foremost, I take no credit to this mod. This mod is taken from @Evasive Motorsports , spotted it on their Time-Attack 86 and knew it had to be done.
Quick history going back, I've been wanting to modify the front bumper for quite some time. My options went from the Garage Vary intake duct, to the Rasty Front Bumper E-Duct (sadly discontinued), to even the Tsukinousagi infamous "5-Hole" mod. I kept looking not being completely 100% satisfied with either. Scouring through the Interwebs of things and alike, I stumbled upon @Evasive Motorsports 's Time-Attack 86. The ducts they made are something I've never seen, the cuts and shape all were symmetrical to the body of the Twins. I had to have it...and here is my journey. The inspiration... Made a template by first laying down some wax paper over the front bumper. I traced out the lines of the body, emblem, and headlight using a level. The Evasive looked a bit lower and followed the lines of the bottom of the emblem -- I eyed it to see what would look best. I picked up at 2" stick of wood from Home Depot with a 2" washer to make the rounded edge. I placed the washer onto one end, made sure it was even all-around and traced a half-circle onto the stick.Template Creation For the other end, I dont know the exact angle I used on the side closest to the emblem. Again this was eyed based on the indentation. Key note, I wanted zero edges, so everything is rounded out to flow better with the body. Once everything was traced, I cut away using a dremel and my Bostitch box-cutter. Test Fit Used painter's tape to attach it to my bumper. Lined it up where I thought it was good, then traced around the template using a marking crayon. Cutting Nerve-wrecking. Completely nerve-wrecking. I researched online to see what people have done for cutting into bumpers. Some say use a dremel, some say dremels melt paint, some said to use an exacto knife, some said to use box-cutters....BOX-CUTTERS? Really? Figuring the bumper was pliable enough, so why not? I sat in front of my bumper staring at the template thinking whether this was a good idea or not. It was a "f*ck it" moment that got me going, and I started along the bottom first incase I messed up. One guy said he nearly took his finger off because his slipped. So words of advice, TAKE YOUR TIME, GO SLOW. It's going to take a lot of pressure to get the blade through Cut! Still have all of my fingers...You're going to need to twist the handle/blade going around the round parts. Make sure to keep going and don't pull out, otherwise you're going to get small bumps of paint like I did. If you cut, keep cutting. Clean-Up Used some small filers to clean up the cuts. The cuts weren't perfect, it's a little uneven here and there, but I think it came out okay since this was a first-time thing. All Done In Closing... The cutout on the driver side has a direct feed to the intake snorkel. I can literally see the my air filter if I look through the cutout and that's because I cut-away most of the factory snorkel. The cutout isn't big enough for me to even fit my hand through, so risk of theft isn't all there. I do worry about rain and other objects getting into the ducts. Slim chances I'll find a dead rat wedged there, though water can probably hit the filter if I'm speeding when it's pouring (also slim chances, living in California). I will though, have to tape off the duct during long drives infested with flying bugs, like highway 5. I'm reserving any mods to deflect water and other objects away based on whether I get either the Skunk2 Powerbox or Grimmspeed intake. The Skunk2 has it's own snorkel, and the Grimmspeed is too early still to tell what it'll use. Otherwise, I'll tack a gutter guard behind it with some liquid nails...who knows. Feedback is welcome, hate it or love it -- please let me know! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update: Double Nostrils Door Trim Applied Close-up Updated Double-Nostril Last edited by ck-GT86; 10-01-2014 at 01:30 PM. Not a bad idea. You should try to clean up the edges and put some sort of mesh/screen in there. Then it'll look legit.

Get some fiberglass and put a round profile on the inside of the cut so it doesn't just look like a cut edge, it looks like a professional scoop. Might also help to smooth turbulent airflow.
It looks very good though. You had an even hand with that exacto knife. |

You could make a duct that ties into the OEM snorkel for the driver's side. The passenger side could just be additional air on the radiator.
