I had to check what thread I was reading with all this talk about lube, goo and bush(ings). @jdzumwalt's "Motor Sports slut" was the cherry on the pie.

I know this thread is over 1year old. but Back then when i needed answers no one had it for me.
so here it is for those that will be in my shoe when i needed answers. for a DD. only do either the solid insert OR the whiteline poly inserts. DO NOT do both. You will feel every motor vibration in all rpms starting from 500rpm all the way to teeth falling rattle 7500rpm. unless you want your ears to bleed out from the drone/extreme NVH/or simply more drive train noise than ken block's fully built drift car, DO NOT DO both. i took out the solid inserts and left the whiteline poly in. i even shaved off half the mass of the perrin inserts. still just as crazy NVH but a lil less. heed my warning. do not do both. do one or the other. that's it. |

what if it is for a race car and you don't mind the noise, was both feeling more solid than just the whiteline?

After thinking about this some I see a number of issues going any of the routes… all 3 companies seemed to have address the problem by stiffening the part of the mount that’s designed to act as a safety mechanism and pivot point.
The transmission wants to rotate about its axis, the two soft compounds provide compression dampening against the force applied to it while the other end stretches. The center bolt looks to me like its there to facilitate that small amount of pivot, and also to act as a retainer should the rubbers delaminate. The way I see it, when you use the perrin mount, your eliminating that pivoting ability entirely, so now the resistance is all on the bolt…. I could be wrong (please tell me if I am), but I think that’s a bad thing The whiteline insert seems to add ridgidity to the intended system, but it does so much closer to the center… so while it still allows the unit to pivot, the resitstance that it’s offering seems to be concentrated in the middle rather than the sides where the original rubbers are. But I guess it works? The cusco does the same thing as the perin but helps to spread the force across the washer, but this seems to then make the entire thing “solid”, eliminating any flex/absorption in the mount which I think is required… I think until a proper caged unit is made, where the stiffer bushings come in the same location as the oem rubbers, the whiteline insert is the most sensible solution… But I am not an engineer and everything I’ve said could be wrong and I’d love it if someone analyzed my thoughts.. J

I went with the whiteline insert, well it's in my garage on a shelf waiting to be installed, simply because it doesn't totally solidify the mount. You can definitely feel the gearbox (through the shifter) move up and down over bumps so I wanted to eliminate some of that movement.
I have a feeling that you'll want to do both engine mounts at the same time as the trans mount if you're going to really solidify them.

doing both does not really make any additional real difference in shifting. if you want racecare feel then go solid on other bushings. building a car is about how the whole systems of parts work together. not just ONE really solid part amongs all other really soft rubbery parts. think "whole system" not just one small part and let that ruin your ride. |

Lakita: i wouldn't be so sure. I got quiet "SC" like gear whine that i can hear in lower speeds too, when installed perrin gearbox mount support. In higher speeds it goes away, or maybe drowns in other noises, don't know. But due it being not that loud, i don't care much for it being there in 1st & 2nd too, imho better shifting feel makes up for that.
