Soon to join the club

Hey guys, I've been a long time lurker of the forum been a fan of the GT86 since I first saw it in 2012. Well after the stars aligned (Graduated college, found a good job, Yada yada...) I'm going to be purchasing a '17 BRZ this week. I had a couple of questions though that I hadn't seemed to find so far.

So I drove the '17 Toyota 86 yesterday, both automatic and manual. The improvements they made on the manual do make a noticeable difference. What I haven't figured out though is other than suspension, are there any differences between it and the Premium BRZ? Also for you guys that cross shopped them what OTT pricing like?

My only other questions are about modifying, I was planning on a new suspension set up but I just wanted to make sure the parts for the '16 were able to go on the '17. And also if anyone knew if Subaru is selling the STi lip for the new bumper?

Sorry about the wall of text and thanks for the replies!

I know in Australia you can buy an STi lip from Subaru (or a full body kit).

'16 suspension stuff should fit the '17. It's basically the same car with very minimal changes. I'm about 90% sure on this as I've yet to take delivery of my '17.

Did the 86 have Leather and Alcantara seats? Did it have buttons on both sides of the steering wheel?

No the seats in the 86 were cloth just as they were on the FRS, felt pretty nice though. I don't believe there were controls on both sides of the wheel though. I do remember there were on the '17 BRZ Limited I checked out but can't quite remember what buttons were on the otherside.

Australia seems to get all the good stuff! Though I know the car itself costs far more.

I bought the 17 BRZ because the interior is nicer and the car looks better IMO. Also wanted the Brembo brake kit which is only offered on the BRZ. Price wise for premium BRZ is comparable. I think the BRZ might even be cheaper for base model.

I don't know about 'Murcuh, but in Canada an 86 is the same price as a BRZ Sport Tech (the fully loaded one). You're getting A LOT more on the loaded BRZ than the 86.

Yep the parts will interchange between years. The 17 suspension would seem to be the same for both cars now. The 86 has slowly drawn closer to the BRZ every model year when it comes to suspension. The Premium has pretty much the same features as the 86 though.

Just to update a bit, I signed a purchase agreement today for a World Rally Blue Premium, I'm supposed to take delivery 11/28 and I can't be more happy! Think I got a pretty fair deal, $1k under MSRP and a good deal on my trade in.

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you go with the Limited? Just didn't need/want the extra comforts?

Yeah pretty much, though originally a few years ago I did want a limited. But then I realized how pointless heated seats are in Texas and didn't really like the Alcantara. Also after a mishap with my mom's push button start SUV (which ended up with me having to help push it around a parking lot) I had a strong dislike towards that feature as well.

Yeah heated seats are kind of a "why?" for me as well...but it does get "cold" enough where I'm at in Cali to need them a couple of mornings out of the year...so why not? The push button start for me was a must have, as was the key less entry.

What kinds of problems with the push button start did your mom's SUV have? Sorry to be getting off topic, you can PM if you don't want to go into it here.

Was a few years ago now and she has a Kia so that's part of the issue lol...but the mechanism between the brake pedal and the starter had shorted out or something of that nature. So basically it wouldn't start because it thought she wasn't pushing the brake pedal. It was an easily diagnosed issue just a pain in the butt.

I don't even know why people like Push Button start. I don't like it at all!
I have it in my 2017 Accord Sport currently and it's simply dumb. So glad my 86 doesn't have that rubbish feature.

Anyways, congrats on the purchase.

It is the only thing I miss from my last 3 cars! Push start and keyless entry were very handy and I still try to do it every once in a while.
Walk up touch door handle and NOTHING.
"Aaaaah shit"
Reach in pocket pull out keys while muttering under my breath about stupid backwards technology.
