I see.

I will take a look and see if I can find anything online. I have suspicion that because it is showing ODO reading it might be protected somehow and won't be able to talk to.

If it does not work I will see if I can get my Arduino out of the cupboard and get a 7 digit LED display to display just the oil temp.

I am just installing the latest version of arduino IDE (long time since used it) and will try to download the library and add it to the IDE.

Hopefully I will be able to change the bit where you send the oil temp. to the temp gauge with writing to 7 digit LED display.

Feel free to ask questions
It should be fairly easy to do want you want

In the arduino project named OilTempDisplay.ino you could add at line 50 to get the current oil temperature :
"char lCurrentOilTemp = S_OIL_DISPLAY.GetCurrentOilTemperature() ;"

After that it's up to you

Thanks Tortoro,

All parts now ordered and will see how it goes.

Instead of playing with the internal display for now I will just display it on a 7 segment LED screen.

Would be useful to see Oil temp when I get the turbo upgrade and oil cooler done in few weeks time.

By the way if you have alarm with keypad installed in the glovebox you can program the alarm to auto lock the doors as is on UK cars.

Thanks for the tips but in France we don't have this option unfortunately (or at least did not see any with )

All the parts came today except for the OBD/RS232 board so decided to play up with the 7 segment display and here is the result. It is much brighter but turned the brightness off so the camera can capture it properly.

Idea is to use a spare ac vent and see if I can integrate it in that.

Nice !

If you don't bother, could you please share the link of the parts you used ?

I might get tempted to do the same if your results / integration are great

Hey mate,

I have used Arduino Uno and TM1637 7-segment LED display. From this this link.

Got the CANBUS shield today, modified your code and need to go to the garage and see if it is going to work. I am really tempted to go do it tonight but is soo cold.

Also found that someone has swapped the 2017+ speedometer into a 2013 BRZ and created joystick so you can go through menus. The benefit here is that the facelift got the oil temp on the dash.

Links here:

Just tried it.

The car throws U0073 - Network error straight away and lights EML.
Soo will leave it for now.

Looks like you have a short circuit on your can h / l wires.

This is really strange and I've never experienced this issue :/

Check your obd wire and shield for any defects

Yes but still no doors auto-lock nor specific oil temp alarm

I don't know for uk but in france, due to emission taxes (10k euros for a brand new 86), there is only something like a hundred 2017+ on the road ... so it's quite hard to find a used cluster

Sorry I'm new to using these little project boards and arduinos and stuff, but I'm assuming the RS232->OBD2 cable will power the arduino automatically through the CAN shield? Where do I stick the capacitors so I don't have to worry about power draw when the car is off?

The CAN shield can power the arduino BUT if you do that it will always be powered even with the car off and locked (like for an oft etc).

To avoid this issue, you could:
- use an obd cable with an on/off button and use it accordingly,
- power the arduino using for example the glove box power adapter +12v and put capacitors on the vin/gnd pins (see https://components101.com/sites/defa...in-Diagram.png).

There is a third option that is to develop some code to make the arduino to go to sleep mode when the car is off to avoid draining to much current but as the second option suited me well and as there is not really a lot of folks to use this ...

I'm still surprised that the obd connector don't provide both permanent and after ignition +12v wires

Hope this helps !
