I had both kinds. When I went in to test drive one, I got stuck with the new guy who said a few stupid things about the car. When it was clear I was actually a buyer, there was a moment of confusion as they scrambled to pass me off to the assistant sales manager to actually discuss numbers.

When I went back a few months later to pick up the car, the first guy was gone. The assistant sales manager diplomatically stated that car sales just wasn't the right fit for that guy, so they came to a mutual decision for him to find something else.

That assistant sale manager signs his emails with a vintage magazine ad for a BRAT. I doubt the other guy even would have known what it was.

A smart business manager will know which salesman to pair with a particular buyer. I called the dealer in advance to confirm availability of the 86's and he set me up with a younger guy who was familiar with the car and was into cars him self. I ended up being his first sale working for that dealer .

The finance advisor I dealt with was very cool about the entire process. He managed to grab me a better finance rate after I left which he didn't have to do. Then we traded stories about cars, bypassed the upselling and i got what I wanted.

Yes. If they have a chance to. The days of the internet shopper will also change the dynamics between customer and salesman. At least for now though the majority of appliance car buyers are still walk ins that may not have a clue about what they want beforehand. It is sort of sad how uneducated most buyers are when they walk into a dealership.

I still haven't forgiven GM for not selling the Holden UTE Black Edition in the US (also comes in orange, although not the black edition).

And then GM just killed Holden altogether. That made even less sense.

I don't see the appeal; perhaps the utility.

You don't? It is a masterpiece. 99.9% of them would never be used for utility purposes anyway. I doubt that most "normal" pickup trucks on the road now are used as designed either.

Personally the rear of the car does not match the front shape. The front looks like there was solid design, and the rear looks very makeshift. Kinda like a Subaru Baja.
