Have to replace entire assembly to replace fuel filter?
I'm at about 80k with my FR-S now so I *should* replace my fuel filter per the manual. However, I've called 4 different Toyota and Subaru dealerships for the part and the answers have ranged from "I can't even find it on the parts computer" to "the only thing I can sell you is the entire fuel pump assembly for $400."
Already searched the forums and Google, but unfortunately I think I'm one of the first people to actually be hitting this mileage. I also considered just not changing it because it doesn't have any symptoms of a bad filter, but I'm selling the car soon and I don't want to tell people it's behind on service. What the heck do I do? Anybody successfully just got the filter portion to the fuel pump assembly like you can get for any normal car? EDIT: (credit to mav1178) Fuel filter is available here for $21: http://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru_201...2072AA121.html Last edited by tobkin; 04-04-2016 at 05:14 PM. Reason: Found solution |

Yeah your gonna have to pull the whole pump assembly to change it. You should be able to get the filter on its own, however its still a pain the the ass to change.

My Toyota dealer said the same thing when I was in to pick up spark plugs and the fuel filter. The parts guy at the Subie dealer next door is pretty savvy, and I figured he would find it separate from the pump, but haven't had a chance to stop by yet.
Thanks @mav1178

No kidding. I'm a little intimidated. Normally it wouldn't bother me too much, but now it's going to be a while before I can get to it...just had rotator cuff surgery on Friday. It's going to be a month before I can drive, let alone contort/twist my arm to the point necessary to do these two jobs.

There's quite a few of us on here with higher mileage. I still haven't changed the fuel filter, I'll get around to trying it someday.
