Condensed Information
Just wondering if someone could help answer shortly what the current status of whats known? Its hard for me to tell reading back on the forums based upon information being released over time.
Projected Release date/season? - Will the fr/ft models be the same just badged different? - Will LED lighting be used in some way like the concepts (HL's and TLs)? - The chance of it using projector headlights (and/or HID's)? - O/T but what are the chances of a special release version at initial launch? (Never followed scion launches before, so I am unaware how often this occurs) Thanks a bunch! |

You're at a book club asking for the spark notes. Good luck.

Anticipating a Spring/Fall 2012 launch
Models are uniform across the globe, but im sure bits and pieces of parts will be exclusive to certain regions upon launch. Lighting for the production car is unknown. No special version at launch known or expected.

For the Headlights, they will most likely have projectors (since the new tC does too, right?) and possibly HIDs, but I wouldn't bet on it.
As far as the parts, They have to have at least slightly different trunks or back bumper (depending on where the license plate is placed) and possibly different taillights, unless the USA version has orange blinkers too, which is not very scion-like. And finally, they were saying that US restrictions on the exhaust are not as bad, so Scion might have a louder exhaust or at least tune it differently. The Release Series (RS) should either come out at the same time or at least be announced and come within the next month or two. But those are all rumors/speculations. Nothing will be set in stone until December. And even then, I would assume we will have plenty of questions that will be unanswered. |

Yeah, iirc the tC RS 1.0 came about 10-12 months after release. I wouldn't expect a RS until Spring/Summer 2013 at the earliest.

EDIT: Didn't find the article, but I found this on the wiki: "Toyota debuted the production tC at the January 2004 with sales beginning in June 2004 as a 2005 model year" and this "Beginning in late spring 2004, Scion launched the Release Series (RS) line". I guess June could be considered late spring, so I guess it lunched at the same time? That is, if any of this information is correct. I honestly can't think back to 2004, but I don't think that is completely correct. EDIT: Yeap, found conflicting information. According to ScionLife, "The Release Series line of the Scion tC was a limited-release option package that began with the Scion tC RS1 in April 2005". Anyways, still looking for the original article I was referring to. Last edited by Mari0; 07-21-2011 at 06:53 PM. |

RR I think we will see LEDs in the head and tail lights tbh. Just my opinion - nothing confirmed.

"AUDI style" LED strips maybe, but not actual LED headlamps, for sure. As far as the tails, even if they don't have them as stock, they might offer different LED tails like they did with the tC, or you can go aftermarket/DIY.

Works for me, except the aftermarke LEDs generally look pretty trashy.

That was the one thing that didn't look right on the Geneva MKII (my opinion). I'm going to assume that since the test mule didn't have the LED strip but did have the LED 3rd and round LED brake lights, they might go with something similar on the official vehicle.

I hope the LED idea is the only thing they keep from the tails from the mule...
After reading what moto has said though, I'm pretty sure they will be closer to the concepts' tails rather than the ones on the mule, which actually remind me of subaru's tails. |
