Oops, misread. I heel-toe when slowing down, but when coming to a complete stop, I just neutral roll it.

I do find myself letting go of the brake pedal to rev-match while slowing down every other occasion.

Ohh okay so you also let go of the brake pedal to rev-match while slowing down.

I try to heel-toe as much as I can so I can keep braking w/ the actual brake pedal (& it's just a cool thing to know how to do ), but I just haven't done it enough to make it completely smooth lol & if I don't do it smoothly (revving too high or what have you), I always feel like I'm ruining the parts lol

But you gotta keep practicing to learn & get it right, right? haha

Never heel toed in my life since I find zero need for it in street driving now and the performance cars I used to own didn't corner worth shit anyway.

Frequently haven't even touched the brakes during higher speed down shifts so the blip is easy since my foot is still on the gas. I may not even start braking until 2nd gear depending on the circumstances.

Low speed down shifts, I either just move my foot and blip or just don't bother to rev match. If you shift fast enough there really isn't much matching to do anyway.

Please keep in mind that these are things I do while normal street driving and I know that F&F is fiction not an instruction video. Track driving will differ.

It's mostly become a habit for me to heel-toe when slowing down. It's part of the fun of driving my FR-S. Hell, I even do it in my Corolla, even though it's absolutely unnecessary.

Actually, I might be the only one who heel-toes in my family now that I think about it. Not even my cousin and uncle do it, and they both own Evos.

slowing down into a turn, I heel-toe.

slowing down to a stop, I heel-toe until usually 2nd gear, then throw it into neutral to roll to a stop.

Heel toe, mostly. If I'm taking it easy, I downshift before I start braking.

Can someone explain the reason for heel-toe outside of a racing application? It just seems unnecessary to me. I've also heard that it is an antiquated technique that isn't really necessary even when racing the twins.

Think KR summed it up nicely.

Weight transfer, and smoothness of inputs. Does it matter on the street? Nope. It's just what I'm accustomed to.

Like they say in the old Army ....... that depends ......

When you downshift, just make sure that when you let the clutch out, in the new gear, the RPMs don't run up past the rev limiter.

It's absolutely required when racing unless you:
1. Like being passed at every turn entry
2. Like swapping ends at every turn entry.

Gotta rev match while at threshold braking or it's game over. Outside of racing? Yeah, it's just for funzies.

This thread has been very informative on the pros and cons between downshifting and neutral rolling while avoiding car forum flame wars. Good job everyone!
