FR-S gas mileage

Does the FR-S get better gas mileage than your present car?

Funny you should start this thread, as I just spent the afternoon calculating what my cost premium would be to run a FR-S/BRZ over my current vehicle, 2002 Civic Si coupe (EX model in the US), manual, rated at 32 mpg city/37 mpg highway.

My real world numbers over a calendar year cycle:
20205 km (12555 miles) driven
6.26 L/100km (37.5 mpg), I use regular unleaded fuel

I'm far from being a leadfoot, but I don't go as far as to hypermile either.

If I were to compare this with the FR-S/BRZ EPA figures 22/30/25 mpg (10.7/7.8/9.4 L/100km), driving the same distance annually while averaging 25mpg, I'd be spending around $900 extra per year, taking into account the higher fuel consumption plus the upcharge of the premium unleaded. Works out to be an extra 4 cents per km over the Civic.

Let's say my driving style allows me to better those figures by a bit, then I get to s(h)ave a couple hundred bucks off that annual total.

Yes. Last vehicle was a 2010 WRX. Should save about 20 bucks per month on fuel. I'm very interested to see what the insurance costs will be compared to the rex.

From the sound of it, he has the same engine I do. I have an '02 civic ex. D17 SOHC vtec. I think its like 130hp or so, slightly more then base D17... I can get 40-41 highway but I generally average 37-38 in typical driving.

And that site, serialk11r, has converted the numbers to the current EPA ratings. Click on any car and find the link to "View Original EPA MPG"

Anyways, back on topic, i think in the real world we can get better then what the FRS/BRZ is rated. Maybe not 40mpg but still better then EPA is giving it credit for...

Right now im getting about 29/35 hwy so im not really losing much. Who knew i could enjoy sporty "performance", AND be gas efficient

I'm in a 22mpg highway 4Runner. It will be faster, more efficient, and a hell of a lot more fun to drive.

That said, I'm keeping the 4Runner, too. The FR-S will be a pretty crappy off-roading and camping vehicle.

Yes in all cases. Real world City/Highway MPG:

2000 Chevy Astro 17/25 (replacing this as DD with FR-S)
2002 Honda Accord SE V6: 20/28
2005 Mustang V6. 18/22

Only thing that does better is 2005 Honda 919 (Motorcycle) at an average of about 42MPG in mixed driving.

I drive an STI and fill up about twice a week. The miles I get out of a tank runs 170-300 depending on how angry I am. My tank is 15.9 Gallons and I am spending about 120ish a week. The savings should be huge when it comes to fuel. I guess what I am saying is how do you get such good gas mileage in a rex? Bone stock?

I'm guessing STI is much worse on fuel than the WRX because it has crazy short gears.
I think the FRS should do at least as well as a Civic Si, around the same weight, displacement, tiny bit longer cruise gear.

I skip shift a lot. I have driven a couple of WRXs with Stage 1 and 2. and they didn't get much better gas mileage... Maybe he is just way better at containing his inner lead foot.
