But it's still a Miata

These were taken on different dynos on different days, so not a 100% perfect comparison, but I think you get the idea. Blue is ND1, red is ND1+header+exhaust+tune, white is ND2.

So they were able to gain almost 20 hp and 15tq from the old ND to the Old Tuned ND. So if the New ND is tuned in similar fashion they could be close to 185whp. It may be more difficult to get similar gains since they have probably nearly maxed out this new motor. But hey if they are at 180whp on a 2400lb chassis should be pretty lethal

Another to thing to note is that the ND2 dyno is certainly a press car with low mileage on it. Previous tests have shown that the 2.0L engine in those cars free up a bit more power too after getting some mileage/use on them.

I'm sure that ~185whp territory is definitely feasible with basic bolt ons and tuning. Should be interesting to see.

Now is the time to buy a ND1 Miata if you were ever interested. Owners on the Miata forum are posting discounts of $4k-7k off MSRP as incentive to get rid of the 2018 ND’s.

If the earlier ND1s drop really fast in price, I would be kind of tempted...

The factory can't really tune the way the aftermarket does, they probably gave it more valve lift and the intake modifications probably help too. It can't be too expensive to do those things to an ND1...

Yeah I would be really pissed right now if I bought a Miata Last year. Which I almost did after trading in my Mazda 6. I went with the 86 instead but it was real close.

The local Mazda dealer (in a very small town) has had about 8 17s all lined up out front gathering dust for several months now. Something tells me you will be able to pick them up for a song soon.

Pistons, rods, cams, valves, springs, retainers have all been changed on the new engine. As has the intake/manifold and exhaust manifold

It will probably be even better once the MY19 is on the lot. although I don't know why you would buy a MY18 when the revision is so much better

Because these rebates are almost what forced induction costs in some places. I wish I needed another car so bad

Sure, but the resale value of the revised ones should always be higher, and you don't get the telescoping steering wheel or the higher RPM redline. It's tempting to save several thousand, but I think in the long run I would regret not getting the ND2.

because you were going to swap the engine out anyways. They will become racer specials soon enough.

I respect that. I just don't see the recoup of the 4k-8k saved in the first place. It's justifiable if only to quell your fear of not having the nd2.
