Even has the BMW control knob for the infotainment.

I'm digging it though. Perhaps, that's partially because of all the hype and excitement around it, but I still think it should be a pretty awesome car. Perfect? No (electronic e-brake and dual clutch trans). But I bet it will still be a blast to drive.

All the switchgear is BMW or at least BMW sourced.
I would know, they look exactly the same as in my X1.

Im pretty sure when he's talking about what is shared, its all the pieces that are interchangeable with the Z4. There appears to be a lot of items that are changed just enough that they are not straight up the same between the two.

The marketing can only keep showing the lead foot gas pedal and those flappy shifters. Not sure why if it's all about feel and not numbers that it can't have a manual transmission. Maybe it's really cuz of the oh shit bar in the way. Or really because German ergonomics don't fit Japanese physique (see how they have to use the tall dude to mask the seemingly high hip point and high dash line).

Everything forward of the A-Pillar looks awkward to me. Part of it is the high hood height. That line through the fender just accentuates the space above the arches. It's just too frumpy looking for a sports car.

Everything behind the A-Pillar is not bad though.

In case people missed the numbers: https://jalopnik.com/the-2020-toyota...oes-1831719119

335 hp
0-60 4.1
$51K
3,400 pounds

In Japan; I4 with either 255hp or 194 @ 3,100 pounds.

No word on the I4 for America, but we should assume it won't be the 194 hp version.

I'm also assuming we'll see a "track" version with the 382 motor at some point. Then maybe down the line, the M3 engine would nifty.

They tested a manual, and there was no bar. I don’t know if the US will see a manual, but it will definitely be an option.

Fixed it.

The B58 will make more than 335 when people start hitting the dynos. Expect a tune and E85 to net over 400. Power won’t be an issue for most.

Weight might be an issue.

Eh, I'll just buy a 340i debage the BMW and slap a cheap eBay Supra decal and call it a day.

If the BMW Supra is Lexus RC-F money only a idiot would buy the Supra.

I'm out.
A premium specced RCF is $70,380. I bet you can get 4-5k off that pretty easily. Rumors say a launch edition Supra will be 56,180, probably then marked up. So A premium of about $10k in order to get a much nicer interior and an awesome NA V8? If you're spending 56k, you should be able to spend 66k for a much nicer vehicle. Meanwhile, the LC is arguably worth another $30k because I want to have sex with it. And if performance is your goal, why get the Supra over a base Cayman? If fun is your goal, it's Cayman, Miata, or twin. The Supra business case is icky in my books.

The RC-F is a 4000lbs porker with a fugly hour glass grill. Just saying. Aesthetics are very subjective.
Agree with everything but what you say about the grill. 4000lbs doesn't matter so much with modern suspension, unless you're going to the race track, in which case a twin or Cayman is a better choice. if you're stuck on Toyota, the Lexus RC-F is a better choice than the Supra, and the LC is the baller option. I want to ball that car, as previously stated.

Also the Mustang GT, for ~41k will win in a 0-60 and probably all passing situations. It weights more but has an amazing aftermarket and can circle tracks very quickly. Then there's the Camaro. If I want light weight, I can always properly LS swap a twin for about as much as a top spec Supra.
