I guess I would appreciate the innovation and engineering process of anything making 1000 hp and being driven in any fashion. Doubling or tripling somethings output is impressive in many ways and not something I would hate to see.

I am a bit surprised that there has been no discussion of the "through the air" updates that the car can get. I know GM is one of the manufacturers that wants to restrict aftermarket tuning on their new vehicles. If the car can receive updates and re-flash to its engine management system via this onboard communication system then any tune that has been put on the car could potentially be reset back to default by GM on a regular basis. Sure you can probably defeat the system but that would likely be costly and void the warranty.

If you let me I will take that word "hate" and replace with "not care". Sorry for offending you.

Then let me replace "dumbest" with "most ignorant" and we can call it a day.

Thanks for bringing that up, that's why I kept saying tuning was a big question mark at this time.

I would actually prefer such a situation. I’m a fan of tuning, but not a fan of the lack of transparency when buying used cars. Specifically, I don’t like the person who tracks their car with an aftermarket turbo system then converts it back to stock and sells the car as a babied grandma car with mostly highway miles. A vehicle history burnt onto the ECU, or an ECU that validates whether a warranty exists or whether it was voided, would be nice. Technically it is fraud to lie for a warranty/insurance claim or to sell a vehicle, but it happens all the time.

Of course, like you said, a Motec or some uplink blocker would easily replace or override their system.

There are a lot of uses for over the air programming outside of the engine control module. Navi, UI, cluster, etc etc etc. 222 S classes have like 84 control units, 1 is the engine.

We’ve been programming teleaid/MBrace/Hermes modules OTA through Verizon for years. No one is hacking the emergency call module for faster concierge service, but the idea isn’t exactly new.

I wasn't aware of this and don't like the idea of it. It's kind of like Uncle Bill endlessly looking at and updating my laptop software. I'd rather schedule updates when and if I want them.

My wife's Impreza emails her when the windshield washer fluid is getting low. It is sort of creepy really.

It was mentioned in passing during the unveil by the retired guy who was in charge of the car's development. It may have been the interview that was posted in this thread. I took it to mean the EMS could be updated remotely by GM along with other software. You can give the interview a listen and judge for yourself.

I don't mind "over the air" updates, as long as I can control them and get the ones I want. Things like GPS map updates should be standard features by now.

Tesla's OTA updates are in my top ten list of reasons I wouldn't want one. They basically can change anything at the whim of Elon Musk, or so it seems. No thanks. If they can do that it means I don't "own" the car.

As far as tracking, I was just reading an article about how OnStar/GM can and does track your vehicle even after the subscription expires if you don't explicitly ask for the data connection to be terminated.

This is the most excited I've been about a new car since the 86 twins were announced.
In all likelihood I'll be picking one up as a new daily in a year or two after my wife and I purchase a house, and letting the tS be the weekend car. I'm extremely shocked that an American car has climbed to the top of my want list.
Even the color offerings are amazingly thorough.
I'll take mine in one of the three following schemes:
