Bought a used OFT with open flash UEL header for $400 usd today! Only had 3k miles on the header. Randomly found this dude at a gas station and needed my pen header so he can trade his car in. So far, everything is as expected running stage 2 UEL on 93 Oct.... Smoother acceleration and idling! Good deal or am I an idiot?

If you can snag a used open flash tablet that's the way to go if you don't intend to go all out.

Definitely a tune, if anything the quickened throttle response just makes the car more fun. If you have or plan on having a few exhaust bolt-ons its a no brainer.

Also, the OFT and others act as a OBDII diagnostic tool

Open Flash Tablet as a product just isn't very good and extremely unreliable. I've seen too many people say how terrible it is and how terrible the results were from the tune.

What do you mean sounds fake? The tune was crap and even the designer of the product didn't have an answer.

FYI rumor has it that Vishnu is working on a flex fuel kit for the OFT. I bought the first batch of OFT's and it been continuously being improved by the company selling it and enthusiasts alike. I've said this before, but it the best $500 I've spent on this car, hands down.

As far as doing track days/auto-x, or whatever. I'd say it's pretty much a given, and shouldn't come up it a "car mod" conversation.

I don't understand that, the OTS tunes are really conservative but give really good power for NA. Do you have a forum post of the person who said that? Even shiv didnt have an answer?

I wish it were that close. I'm over 200km AND either bridges or a ferry, but every one is absolutely worth the trip!
Not sure of your driving background but these cars are very capable out of the box. Once you start nearing that limit, then start looking for vehicle mods.

That said, if you want some quick, cheap tricks:
Ditch all the stuff in your trunk (spare & tools) - Free / -30.8lbs
Shorai Lightweight Battery / KC Machine bracket - $399 / -23.12lbs
K&N Panel Filter and Perrin snorkel (ditch all the noise generator tubing) - $171.60 / -.88lbs
Pull both fuel rail covers, replace the ECM one with the Velox bracket - $69.55 / 4.69lbs

That totals $640.15 USD and sheds 59.49lbs from the car. Might pick up an hp or two from the filter but negligible. You could also skip the snorkel to save yourself a few more bucks and bring it down to ~$520.

Next step would be exhaust/driveshaft but you're racking up $$$.

Hope that helps!
