I don't understand how the alternator diodes could "whine"...??

If you car is slow in starting, you may wish to check the health of the battery and alternator:

A distinct possibility. This jogs my memory of a failed alternator a long time ago. You can really hear it when the regulator feeds pulsed current to the rotor winding.

The sound in the clip sounds an awful lot like an alternator issue. As others have said. However my RSX had a similar noise that increased pitch w/ revs and it turned out to be my power steering. Different cars obviously but it could still be a possibility.

I got a quick video of it, hopefully you can hear it.

Any ideas?
Do you have a supercharger ? In all seriousness though no clue

humfrz
Just make sure to not put the screwdriver in the belt engagement while your ear is pressed on it or else

@636, I remain in agreement with your friend who first mentioned the alternator. It jogged my memory of a first hand experience.

Any updates?

I have the same sound coming from mine. It actually sounds more like a hissing whine. On mine you dont have to be rolling and it seems to come alive when the clutch is pressed in. almost like a vacuum leak.

HAve you taken yours to the dealer? or any updates?

Can you get a recording of the sound. LP masters are cut into wax disks. I'm old.

Possibly TOB. Gotta hear it, though.
