Well you better build your own replacement vehicle, and make it perfect. Every other major manufacturer has failure rates very similar to what we are seeing with the twins. I think it is likely the case that our cars are beat on by a higher than normal percentage of owners as well.

Don't let a few bad cases allow you to swear off a brand Throughout this whole process all I'm worried about is if they scratched my car removing the engine

I'm the one with the engine problem, and I have not said a single bad thing about Subaru/Toyota about this whole thing.

Yes you should be commended for your attitude good Sir!
It may help that, from the sounds of it, you have a good dealer. Many of the guys screaming have more a dealer issue that an engine issue.
Even on new cars some parts fail, that is a fact of life. Our cars are a first gen so that rate may be marginally higher then longer production cars but is not the "Oh my god they are all blowing up" scenario that some make it out to be.
As long as they fix it without a hassle then all is good.

I don't believe that. I'm coming from Nissans VQ engine that I've had in different cars since 1995 and followed all the forums with those vehicles (maxima/I30). During those years, never so many post about engine failures as I am seeing here. Also, when doing Google search for rod knock, the Subaru boxer seems to be a frequent search result.

Yes, I can accept to a certain degree engine issues, especially in a new design and in a great car like the BRZ, but not when the dealers often try to blame the drivers. Subaru needs to acknowledge the issue and take care of their owners!

Just a note about how Google does search results--they use your history to focus your current search. If you are in the habit of searching for "Subaru" or "boxer," Google will prioritize results that have those terms as well even when you are searching for something like "rod knock."

My last car was a 2011 Nissan Altima.... lemon lawed it! I went to the dealership 20 times for multiple issues. It was towed in at 300 miles roughly at it's first failure.

Sorry to hear that!

So back to the current issue, any updates on what they need to do to get your FRS back on the road?

No updates today. Service Manager has Mondays off. I should get an update tomorrow.

In the mean time you might want to get your car checked out if you're experiencing the same or similar noise.

I will once they resolve your issue. Yes, it's been diagnosed. Not repaired as of yet. I look forward to hear what they do to repair it. Either way my car goes to the dealer really soon for an oil change. Keep us posted.
