Stock Suspension and Wheel Fitment

Hello Everyone,

I asked this question in another thread and sort of got ignored. I also searched on here for a while but couldn't really find my answer.

I'm interested in getting some Enkei RFP1's in 17x9 size for track duty and autocross but I'm worried they may not fit on the stock suspension. Does anyone know if I'll run into any issues like rub at full lock?

From what research i've done, it seems the biggest issue is the front end. I'm pretty sure these wheels will fit fine on the rear, but the front seems like it might rub against the spring coil depending on which tire I run.

Right now I'm looking at 245's because 255's seem like they will rub. I'm looking at the Dunlop Star Specs for tires right now.

What are the offsets on them? It seems that the fenders on these cars are pre-rolled. Depending on your final offsets you might get away with it.

Looked into it further. If the Offset is closer to +42, I think you'll be able to get away with a 255. No guarantee, however.

enkei rpf1's only come in 8" wide for 5x100 unless you custom order them, and to do that I think you need to be a distributor and buy in bulk. I could be wrong. 5x100 sucks

bneale - if you've never autoX before you should stick with 17x7 size so you can stay in stock class. Soon as you go wider you're in with a lot of crazy dudes who have spent a lot of money in mods. You can put fat tires (like 235) on 17x7 anyway. Just a thought.

I'm waiting for Enkei to release the 17x7 size (I think it was announced already)

You're right, you have to custom order them. But even then, I can get a set of 4 in black for 265 a wheel as 5x100 and 17x9 size.

tirerack will order them for you on special order if you request it through them. That was my plan in order to get them.

Because I want to add an exhaust to my car, its going to bump me into STX class anyway. So STX is going to be my home. For now I'm starting in stock class (with street tires, new class apparently) but I will be going to STX as soon as I buy the wheels and tires.

So yeah, I know I can put bigger tires on my stock rims, but Ultimately I want to have 1 set for racing, and 1 set for road use. So in the end, I might as well just buy my STX wheels now.

Hence the reason why I want to confirm if 17x9 will fit on the stock springs. Once I've got the wheels and tires, i'll be doing suspension followed by exhaust and intake. Thats my mod list so far.

I think your right about the offset. But some people have said 255 will rub at full lock. So I was hoping a 245 tire wouldn't.

Any comments or ideas on this?

Hard to say, but I've seen the 17x9 RPf1s on the tire rack site and was wondering the same thing.

He's been trying out 255s on his car with 6UL wheels from 949 racing.

I also think that member Scooby South on here has a similar setup.

Might work if the offset gods smile on you?

Yeah I read his comments actually. I found it to be very interesting.

The only issue is they were saying they had some rub at full lock with a 255 tire. I'm trying to avoid the tire rub and I think thats exactly why tirerack is suggesting a 245/40/17 tire for that wheel.


The other problem is, the only 6UL wheel they have is already sold out and 949 has not indicated that they will be receiving more. So those maybe off the market completely until they get more in stock.

So far I think the Mark V's seem to be the winners. They are the only ones I've sort of confirmed fit properly and a shop in town contacted me through another forum and asked me if I wanted to come down and test fit them. I found the Mark V's in the wheel thread sticky.

I'm still about a month or 2 away from ordering the wheels and tires so I have a bit of time before I need to confirm the fitment.

cost on an enkei rpf1 that size is 400$ a wheel if I remember correctly...how are you getting quoted 265?
