Anyone find this to be the case in their car? Any fixes?

I have this issue, and I either ignore it, or when it really bothers me, I hold it. I would complain, but I don't think the dealer would resolve the issue.

When you realize it's that silver ring you definitely have a WTF moment. Heard another rattle, was annoying the crap out of me...realized it was my watch rattling as I held the wheel, now THAT was a real WTF?!

Mine never rattled, but it did come loose. One full rotation more, and it was fine.

Has anyone tried using teflon tape on the threads to see if it stops?

Definitely the silver trim ring, I took mine off and the rattle was gone, reattached the silver trim ring with liquid nail now it is quiet.

TSB 03-71-13 should address this. Came out 7-1-13.

My car had poor shifting from 1st to 2nd and sometimes to 3rd. There is a TSB for the gear lever in ZA.

The lever on top is the original - the washers come out and have an O-ring in between them. The joint is a lot more robust. The old lever had noticeable play and got worse as mileage increased. On 23000 odd km right now.

Will try and get the part number.

Thumbs up Finally fixed the vibrating shifter problem

Just want to add my experience for those who still suffer this annoying problem.

My car is a LHD 2012 production 2013 model year. The shifter has been vibrating since day 1.

I had the lever replaced under warranty after a lot of documenting (videos, going back and forth to the dealer... waste of time). Not only did it not address the issue, it actually got worse.

Toyota HQ said that "some" noise is "normal" and that they couldn't do more.

I went back and forth to the dealer and got the same message, "HQ says it's normal so nothing more we can do here".

I finally took the car to a different dealership and it took a 5 minute test drive for them to say, "if this noise is normal, we'll get the HQ guy to come here, test the car and tell us what exactly he means by normal".

They agreed to get me another shifter, my third one so far, and after a few hours installation the problem has been solved. 2 weeks from that and not one noise coming from the shifter.

My opinion: the problem could be from a defective first and second shifter lever, but most probably it is due to the carelessness of the first dealer that didn't install the replacement lever properly and the total lack of dignity displayed by the HQ guy who couldn't care less.

There is a solution, don't let them get away with it. Insist!!

For starters I did not read every post. I have the same issue, Shifter rattles at anything above 4.5l rpm. It does not happen till after the car has warmed up. I am aware that there is a youtube video of a guy who states this is because of an internal part behind the reverse lockout. I took it too the dealer ship and they replaced my shifting assembly and the issue persists..
