Low beam high beam mechanism and auto off question

1. On the 2017 86, is it correct that there's no such thing as a separate led bulb for the low beam and high beam. It's just a piece of plastic that block part of a single headlight LED beam that's above a certain angle?

2. Is there a way to program the computer to allow for the headlights to be on but auto shut off when the key is pulled from the ignition? I think the small LED driving lights are fine, but at dusk, I find myself manually turning on the headlights, then have to remember to turn it back to auto so that they turn off when I pull the key out of the ignition.

1) correct, the projector has 1 light source. the shield on the inside flips down when you turn on the highbeam allowing light above the cutoff.

2) not that I know of.

I rarely use my fogs unless it's necessary. A diagram would be great. I've run wires to my backup camera so I'm comfortable doing that. Thanks!
Here you go.

Thanks very much for this. Can you please give your opinion on this method? Is one preferred (safer?) than the other?

either way will work. I prefer my setup because it has a separate power source and only uses the oem fog wire as a trigger to turn it on as opposed to that person's single fog is now powering 2 bulbs, or double the wattage.

'17 BRZ, coupla questions:
1. Any way to turn off the DRLs?
2. Any way to have the DRLs only be on the dimmer of the two brightness levels when they are on?

Besides manually putting in a toggle.

Otherwards it may involve ecu programming (Toyota should be able to do it) Subaru doesn’t do that stuff so they don’t know how to.

Check the DRL input wires. There may be 1 wire for low power 1 for high power. If that is the case. Cut the high power wire. And hook up the low power toboth the inputs from the headlight making sure to install a diode to not allow backflow.

Hi there,

I just purchased some used 17' 86 headlights, but it turns out that 2 of the mounting points on the passenger side's headlight is broken.. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement back piece and/or the procedure in replacing it?

I assume I will have to bake it open and re-bake it closed.

TIA!

Unfort you cant buy just that part. you'd have to source a used headlight, maybe you can find one with a busted lens and you can just swap the lenses.

I need some help with a pair of Spyder headlights for a 2013 FRS. I bought some Spyder headlights to swap out the factory ones. After getting the bumper off and everything ready I looked at the connection on the spyder headlights and on my car. They were the same size....has this happened to anyone before or was I suppose to find an adaptor for these? I thought it was all plug and play in this case. I wasn't sure if this was the proper forum or not. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

It looks like you got headlights with the wrong plugs, probably a poor vendor or Chinese replica of those headlights. contact the seller for more help.
