Tyres
Hi Guys,
Looking at replacing the Michelin HP 215/45/R17 with Dunlop Sumitomo ZIII. Anyone got experience with this tyre. Picked it up at a good price compared to the R1960 each () for the Michelins. |

Did you already buy the Dunlops? What's important to you in a tyre? Long lasting? Minimal grip? (Similar to the Primacy) Strong dry grip (Eg. Potenza RE002) Strong wet grip (Eg. Michelin PS4's) |

You can compare prices here: http://www.errolstyres.co.za/ Most people that I know who changed tyres went for Potenza RE002's (Approx R1300 per tyre) or Michelin Pilot sports which has immense grip in dry and wet. |

225/45R17 Bridgestone RE002's are currently on special at Errols for R1244
You can't do better than that http://www.errolstyres.co.za/tyre/br...002/6596/21730

I'd ask myself why they're SO cheap...
R800 each seems rly low.

They could be good but then they're probably good for your average family sedan, I wouldn't fit them on my 86.

Well according to tirerack, the sumitomo z3 sound similar to the Pirelli cinturato p7 which are on my auris , also in the R800-R1000 per tire in 205/55/16. The cinturato are decent for the daily drive, seems to handles the wet a bit better than the primacy (different cars so probably going different speeds). A shame the auris wheels don't fit 86 cause I wanted to swop wheels just to try it out. Normally ppl say to buy best tires you can afford, nothing wrong with value options either as long not under tyred.

What works on one car wouldn't necessarily work on another, plus we're talking FWD vs RWD. Fact remains that the 86 is a fairly tail happy RWD car and VSC can only do so much. Don't cut corners when it comes to safety, no pun intended.

Yeah you are absolutely right about different tyres on different cars. @jarnoh, keen to hear what you go for and review of those tyres.

That's why, if you ask people with experience on this platform what their advice is, listen.
Bang for buck, RE002 punch way above their price. |

Thanks for the advice guys....really appreciate it....i have read all the input on this and at the end of the day I have done nearly 45000km on the standard michelins....so I have decided to stick to the standard tyre....better safe than sorry especially if I want to change all 4. Just means I need to drive carefully in the wet....I will price the RE002 and then decide between the standard tyre and the bridgestone.....thanks for all your input!
