What transmission?

I can't seem to find the name of the transmission used in the toyabaru. I read something about the gears being the same in a Lexus IS? Is the transmission the same?

The idea is, I'm wondering if I'd need to replace transmission as well, if I do a lexus IS/IS-F engine swap, which would mean it would be less expensive... Otherwise, I'd rather head in a LS/T56 direction as I already have some experience with them.

Thanks

The manual gearbox is called TL70.
It maybe similar to Aisin az6, but newly developed for this car. Triple syncros on 1, 2 and 3.
5th gear is 1:1

Is that Toyotas code? Every variant of the AZ6 varies (the S2K one is NOTHING like any of the others for example). Toyota clearly plastered an "Aisin AZ6" sign with info right next to the trans so it's definately an AZ6 trans just with the "normal" modifications the OEMs request.

Darksword: The IS350 doesn't even have a manual option last time I checked..

Rice: it's not as good as the S2K. IMO it feels somewhere between an S2K trans and a NC/RX8 trans.. all of which are AZ6 trans of course..

Yup, I had a feeling it wasn't same and my digging led me to the link above.

It's neither the RA60 or the AZ6.

I'd still call it an AZ6 simply because the S2K still calls it an AZ6 and I'd be surprised if 1% of it matches a S15 AZ6 trans

The TL70 info is definately correct as a Toyota trans code though, so that was good info
