Anyone that doesn't want to get some fancy wheels can just buy Konig Ultraforms. Very inexpensive wheels, 17x7 ET40 weighing 17.0 lbs. Perfectly aligned to SSC spec, to the nth degree.

The Braid wheels are ~$1,200, that's hardly an unheard of amount of money for a set of decent autox wheels. I'm not sure exactly how much it'll cost to make them a bit lighter, which is why I asked for a quote. I still doubt it will be an unheard of amount.

In reality, I will probably go with something cheaper in the end. But it's nice to have the option for something that is ideal specs for class and that I actually like the look up. Plus I get to directly support some local grassroots racers, all while not spending a ton. That'd be a win in my book.
Assuming you decide to stick with SSC

I guess my point was, it was communicated that this class is Spec. People complained about the cost barrier to STX and said this is a fantastic way for me to not spend money. Now people are spending money (mind you much more than my STX wheels) to get the nth degree of weight out.
But, thanks to the specifications the parts must meet, spending a bunch of money gives a competitor zero advantage over people who spend less money.

I mean, even if we all bought identical pre-prepped cars, someone could spend a bunch of money on a personal trainer to loose weight and gain more of a weight advantage than any of the parts being discussed now.

The spec rules just mean we don't HAVE to spend a bunch of money. I can't think of any rule, or set of rules, that could stop all competitors from spending money.

I did some experimenting with mine and found that 2.5oz of wheel weights get an otherwise naked wheel (no valve stem or center cap) to 17lbs. I mount and balance my own wheels and I always have at least one wheel that takes more than that.(It's a totally normal amount of balancing weight) However, just so I don't have to keep track every time I mount tires, I am going to make sure all the wheels have 3 ounces of weights that I just leave on the wheels.

The wheels were ~$150 each on sale and the wheel weights were basically free.

My Enkei's for CS cost....more.

True.

Personally, I could care less too. I just find it funny how Howard's message of class philosophy is already being violated.
bah... let's keep some personality in the class.

I think all this wheel talk is just a sign that people still want the ability to personalize their car, and not run something that is completely OTS.

17lbs is cake. There are practically dozens of options out there, in the range of 17-18lbs. If someone wants to spend $600/wheel just to have something that looks different, then more power to them.

These are the wheels that I'm targeting, but I couldn't find them available online in my quick search. Mind me asking where you bought your set?

As for the noise, drive it more. Coating of soot does wonders for knocking down the reverb. My car didn't even register a reading at Devens, which means <85 (80?). All runs listed "Lo."
I've had it on for about 2 years (maybe 7-8k miles) and it still drones and is loud. It's not unbearable though, and I actually prefer it over the quiet stock exhaust...unless it's a 7 hour drive to Lincoln, then it's definitely annoying.

We're on different scales for mileage, I think. 4k/year probably would make that process take longer. I've been right around 18k/year in the car.

I still say drive it more. It's never going to be a valuable car, and it's actually not completely terrible in the snow. And you get some wtf looks when you roll into a ski area.

As much fun as I think it would be in the snow, I like working on a rust free car
I do need to drive it more in the summer though...been driving it this week to work and it makes the commute much more fun!
