The two cars are not exactly the same. This way we will find out for sure, for us that are on the fence between the two..

I like that they're getting a BRZ and FRS, and that both have MTs.

I look forward to reading their long term impressions given the differences in suspension and amenities. Comparing an AT and MT would muddle the results (since the AT has taller ratios and is heavier).

Also, they could eventually mod one and leave the other stock, which would be interesting.

Additionally (zips up flame-suit), any able-bodied enthusiast that chooses to buy this car with the AT needs to have his head examined.

Edmunds has started their long term test of the FR-S. They plan to make the FR-S a project car. I look forward to seeing what they do with it!

Not to be pessimistic, but isn't the first year too early in the development cycle for the aftermarket companies that are making the big ticket items like forced induction? Or am I underestimating those companies?

So far the Insideline fuel economy is somewhat similar between their CVT Impreza Sport and their manual FR-S. Although the EPA rates the combined fuel economy 5 MPG higher for the Impreza, their fuel economy is separated by no more than 1.3 MPG in the first few thousand miles.
