I previously had a 335i with full bolt ons making 400whp and around 450tq but suddenly the car started smoking, chugging oil, I had blown the seals on the turbos. I decided to go single turbo which fell through and decided to sell the car to buy a BRZ. I can honestly say I have as much or more fun in my BRZ than my 335i. Granted the 335i was very very fast, and it was extremely smooth which in reality to me was boring unfortunately. Many other little problems also bugged me with the 335i with so many electrical parts and features it leaves more room for things to go wrong. Which ever of these cars you do get I promise you will have fun in though.

I came from a 400HP 135i, and it was $$$ to run, I did auto x, lapping, drag racing and daily driving duties for two years, and eventually I decided to dump it in favor of a much cheaper, lighter car that handled better and was cheaper to run (BRZ).
The BMW handled like a pig compared to the Toyobarus, and no limited slip diff meant a distinct lack of traction at most times coming out of corners. |

I too came from a 400+ WHP 135i, and I can say for your situation, OP, that you would probably be better off going for the FR-S. For the BMW you need to add an LSD, entire suspension, and add those to an already used car, whereas you can basically track the FRS fresh off the lot. Add a little bit of power and some better rubber to the FRS and it would be no contest, I think.

As someone who is also currently learning what "driving fast" really means, 600+hp is way too much. You'll find you've got way too much to handle when you begin to push it.
Go with the FR-S/BRZ. In stock form, it's got the handling while just enough power to teach you to drive well but not too much that it'll get out of hand too easily.

I currently drive a 335is, which has additional cooling capacity with radiators (oil and coolant) where fogs might be. I would never track this car as I consider it a GT car (LOVE the motor) not a track star. As mentioned bove the 135 would be a better bet but you will always be hard pressed to find a better track car for the dough than an FR-S. Not fast but incredible and fun...

Don't know, don't care. Because racecar.
But seriously, I would take that to a master mechanic before offering a penny. If it checks out, I'll sell my kidney, and a nut for it.
