So in the end, you gotta pick your battle.
I'd 100% buy the 4-cylinder Supra for ~$40K.

I just want the chasis & suspension of the new Supra with 'decent' power. The 86 already has enough power for me, I'd be happy in a ~250hp 4-cylinder Supra.

No B.S. and not trying to sell you shaving cream to "make ends meet"
I like Mr. Goose, he's well known around here since his ownership of an FRS and subsequent videos really helped propel his YouTube channel early on five or six years ago. Lots of people didn't like his clickbait titles and criticism of the car, but now he pulls more views than most magazines.

Props to him for putting cars on a lift and talking about what's going on underneath, critical if you care about that kind of stuff and nobody else really bothers, I'll watch the cars I'm interested in on his channel solely for that segment. I think his bitter negativity is fading as he left whatever office job he had before.

He doesn't hold a candle to Doug though when it comes to counting cup holders and interior switch gear.

@Tcoat well duh you're going to get a better idea of a car walking around it for fifteen minutes (except for putting it on a lift), better check out of this thread for the next month if you don't want to hear a bunch of gen Xers with cameras talk nostalgically about cars that came out when they were 12.

Sadly, for B46 (4 cylinders) to come to US isn’t up to Tada-san to decide. It’s Toyota US to decide. I hope to see it happen... but only time will tell

I don't mean I could get a better idea I could give a better idea. Maybe I should buy a camera and start my own segments.

I heard someone drove the four banger Z4 say the turn in was way better than the I6, lighter weight was noticeable. And I know the b48 easily pumps out 300 ft-lbs and 250 HP with the boost turned up, our tuner claimed those were wheel numbers out of the lower spec engine with some boost added, dialed back for fear of breaking axles which turned out to happen anyway. Not sure how much headroom is left in that engine but stock for stock I'd bet on a stock Z4 I4 over the stock mk4 TT Supra. They'll sell the I4 Supra in Japan but it sounds like we won't get a coupe b48 car at that price and the base Z4 starts at $50k here, not worth it unless you want the cloth top.

I would like to subscribe to this newsletter, do you accept personal cheques and who should I make it out to?

@Ichi, B48, not B46

And looking it up the Zupra doesn't have the highest output versions of either engine so there's still some headroom to tune it and push up to gentleman's agreement numbers at the wheels in theory. BMW also chokes engines with exhaust so a cat back could actually post gains on these cars. Header intake tune, I bet Supras are pushing past 400whp with just bolt ons this time next year.

Time will tell. Overall I like the new look, power looks good. Great GT card with some handling chops. Love the stock exhaust. Sadly out of my price range by a long shot. Lets hope this venture is successful as it will encourage them to build more sport cars in era where EVs might make auto executives think twice about low volume low profit sports cars.

I found this interesting but it is very long and is not the type of review that everyone else is doing. His real review will come next week.

Hoooboy does the Supra put its power down well. Car and Driver got 0-60 in 3.8s with a 12.3 s quarter mile. Not bad for 335 horsepower. Oh, it also turns in 31 mpg on the highway.

So I'll admit it.

I wasn't a big fan of the car when I first saw it. Aesthetically, I think the front half of the car is a pretty big let down. As a matter of fact, I still do. However, I didn't really have much of an interest in the vehicle because it was largely BMW. Not that that's a bad thing, but I'm spending 50k for a halo sports car from Toyota, when I sit inside of it, I'd like to see more Japanese styling rather than a bunch of carryover components from BMW.

After seeing reviews and remarks from people like Matt Farrah and Savagegeese (never mind pretty much the rest of the youtubers because they suck) I have a new level of faith in the car. The way the car rotates on turn in and through the corner is pretty cool to see. It seems like the car is plenty lively and not at all a big, fat pig of a car that pushes everywhere you go. Savagegeese said in his video "the Supra is really eager and basically just feels like a heavier Miata with more power". I can dig that.

I'd be interested in driving one. Though I'll still reserve any strong desire to own one until I see how they do in terms of reliability for the first couple years.

I think the opposite will happen with EVs, the power train will be able to be taken off the shelf from any mass market car available and get stuffed into a little nimble chassis for rocket ship performance at a fraction of the cost of today's power trains due to the economies of scale. That also offers tight packaging with a low cg that means more space for cool suspension designs like longer formula style control arms for better camber and toe curves.

The last boom of sports cars in the late eighties was fueled by leaps forward in engine efficiency, as EFI hit consumer cars and companies figured out how to reduce emissions without sacrificing power you got engines like the 4AGE, KA24, Ford Modular Engine, Honda B-series, LSx, Mitsubishi 4G6 etc. etc. That were in mass production for high volume cars and trucks making them cheap to toss into sports cars. I expect EVs will follow a similar trend once battery tech makes another step forward and they gain significant market share, there's only so many ways to wire them up so the designs will converge and cheapen to the point where I bet people will eventually start doing motor swaps to EV because it's cheaper than sourcing parts to keep an ICE running and you get better performance.

Edit: Tyler, I mean, either you're willing to buy a $50k BMW or not, it's really a question of if it drives well enough for you to take the risk right? The engine, mechanics and interior aren't going to be anything new or scary or prone to change over the next three to four years, it'd only be body panels and such at risk, but the Germans are actually good at that now, except I guess shock tower bracing.
