Nah. It's not a terrible thing to relax with a beer off the tap. Going to a bar doesn't have to be a social thing. Sometimes you want to not go straight home like every other week night, and want to have a drink elsewhere.

Wouldn't say that's a bad thing at all.

Well, not quite, but it does remind me of the time down in Phoenix. I had had a hard week traveling by air and started unwinding at the Phoenix airport in a VIP lounge, on a Friday late afternoon, when I met this very nice looking older lady. WOW, did we hit it off.

She was upset because her flight to Oakland was delayed. I suggested she fly to San Francisco on my flight and I would take her over to Oakland to meet up with her son. She said OK and insisted that we fly first class so, she bought herself a first class ticket and upgraded my ticket to first class (at her expense). Between the free drinks at the VIP lounge and the free drinks in first class on the airplane, we were feeling no pain.

She invited me down to her ranch, outside of Scottsdale, for a weekend. She said I could bring my dirt bike and ride it all over her 4,000 acre ranch.

We had struck up a pretty good friendship in a short amount of time -

Well, we arrived in San Francisco airport and went directly to the VIP lounge, where she called her son to come over and pick her up. She thanked me for my companionship and gave me her phone number.

THE END

I will argue my point on my own terms. It tastes better.

Beer snobs are much like car "enthusiasts" in that they like to talk shit about anything they don't like while ignoring that the majority have no issue with it. It is hard to argue that 3 of the top 5 beers sold in the USA are lite ones. Sure it can be said that part of that is because they are cheaper but at some point it has to be recognized that people actually like it as well. If the lite beers were the crap that so many like to pretend people just would not buy it no matter how cheap it was much less make it the most popular.
What makes the list of the most popular "bad"?

1) Bud Light.
2) Coors Light.
3) Budweiser.
4) Miller Lite.
5) Corona Extra
Who are these people? All I said was that I like neither mass-produced lite beer nor the amateur micro-brew stuff that tries too hard. You know how much I drink. If I'm going to have a beer, it'll be a good one. I can just as easily have a glass of water.

Sad because the place I was at is supposed to be a 'classier' bar kinda place, not some hole in the wall ghetto ass downtown bar.
Just a thought.. perhaps the "drunk crowd" also had "one of those weeks"... They have to go somewhere..

1) about 99.99% of all microbrew ales. Ales are the easiezt, cheapest beer to make. It is what beginner brewers make.

Rainier Green Death Ale - they sponsored a bicycle team back around when Bob Roll was with 7 11.

Lucky Bock - Good grief! First beer I found that tasted better than whiz. This was way far pre-micro brewers.

Elkhorn - Somehow, they made it some sort of weedy green colour. Nobody else knew why either.

BEER - in the white generic cans.

I don't know what makes a good beer good. I just know what I like when I taste it.

Drop Top has been my go-to for many years.

That is just it. People like what they like but it does not make what they don't like bad. My favorite beer of all is Bud Lite. It is not "water" nor in any other way inferior to other beers just because it is just a nice basic lager.

Never heard of Drop Top but the description alone makes me gag!

"Drop Top Amber. Drop Top Amber is brewed with honey malt and a touch of milk sugar (lactose) for a unique, silky character with complex flavors. A rich, exceptionally smooth taste makes Drop Top an ale that's as easy to appreciate as it is to drink."

It is also a very nice example of wonderfully pretentious marketing buzz words.

I had a nice light Italian beer last night. It had good flavor though and the only guy who judged me at the bar looked away after I stared him down for all of about 3 seconds.

I like the Root Beer (it does taste like root beer) and the mountain ale ( which sorta tastes like a Mountain Dew but not quite). I'm not a big beer or ale fan overall, more of a hard liquor guy, at the end of the day.

As far as domestic beers, they all taste pretty much the same to me. I'm with @Tcoat overall on the "microbrews" though (even though the two above fall into that category).
