Either way it sucks if you prefer to have "hard" media. One of my sons preordered from GameStop not knowing that was the "rule". No reason the disk version could not include a download license for the other.

Gradually over the years I have moved away from the wanting "hard" media.
Heck every game you buy now even the hard media versions install most or all of the game straight to hard disk.

I am the same way. Took some getting used to not having that disk in hand but then I look at the piles and piles of old games piled up in the basement and remember why electronic is better. Anybody want a hard copy of Fallout 1?

Yea, I'm pretty much there as well, but things that go around come around, like my hipster pro musician son that will only buy new music on vinyl and my gamer son that wants a hard copy of his games because he likes to "show off" the cases.

Hmmm...maybe. I could trade you a official copy of Windows 1.01 on floppy diskette (below) or a not-official copy of MS-DOS 1.1 through 5.1.

A also have a copy of Flight Sim 1.1 around here somewhere, and all the Sierra On-Line games, or Ultima I through ....

Hmmm I think I may have a problem....

I think I have many of those as well.

The oldest game I still have around is:

I spent days stalking convoys to get the perfect position.

I spent about as much time playing MicroProse Gunship on a monochrome vga monitor...in the snow...on a hill.

That's the secondary reason my son buys hard copy console games.

LOL funny you mention that.

My 16 year old has been on this kick about buying an expensive record player and vinyl albums.

It is the thing to do right now. Both my grandsons just gave piles of albums for Christmas lists. I just need to dig out all my milk crates full and they can have vintage ones.

Follow-up to my starting the Mass Effect series

ME1 was pretty cool. Nothing too spectacular. But holy crap, ME2 is one of the best games I've played in the last 5 years at least! It's like on the same awesome level as Deus Ex: Human Revolution or Dishonored.

Haven't beaten ME2 yet, but is ME3 at least as good as this one?
Also, @strat61caster you were spot on in your explanations so that was appreciated
